Most of what you’re seeing was decided months before it existed. Sketched, sampled, held up to the light, reconsidered, chosen again. The finished room takes seconds to fall in love with. Getting there is the slow, deliberate part — and it’s our favorite part.

We meet a lot of homeowners who’ve been living with “good enough” for a decade — the kitchen that almost works, the living room nobody sits in. Not because they didn’t care, but because a real renovation felt like something for later.

Here’s what we’ve learned building and designing homes across the Upstate: later becomes ten years faster than you think. And a home designed with intention doesn’t just look better — it changes how every ordinary Tuesday feels.

Technically, both are possible. 😉

But an interior designer isn’t just there to pick pretty finishes. From the very first framing decisions, we’re thinking through layout, function, flow, natural light, storage — the hundred small choices that determine whether a house actually lives well, not just photographs well.

Can you build without one? Sure. But most of the expensive mistakes we’re hired to fix weren’t design problems — they were decisions made too early, without a designer in the room. Windows placed without thinking about furniture. Kitchens laid out before anyone asked how the family actually cooks. Beautiful houses that don’t function.

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

The prettiest rooms we’ve ever finished all looked like this first.

When people hear “interior design,” they picture the reveal — the styled shelves, the light pouring in, the exhale. But every one of those rooms spent months looking like this: studs, subfloor, dust, and a hundred decisions nobody will ever see.

This is actually where the design happens. Where the outlets land so the lamps work later. Whether that wall can move so the kitchen breathes. How high the windows sit so the light reads right at 4pm. By the time the pretty part starts, the most important choices are already behind the walls.

Because we design and build, we’re on site for all of it — which means the finished room was decided here, in the mess.

The ugly phase isn’t the part before the design. It is the design.
