Back from KBIS 2023 and ready to share our favorites… all 33 of them (how can you narrow it down with so much to see?). We loved seeing displays showcasing a return to polished metals, fashion forward-yet timeless fixtures, and so much COLOR! It was great show and we can’t wait for next year!

Got some vintage inspiration tonight while in Vegas for Design & Construction week. Highly recommend the nighttime tour of the Neon Museum if you love vintage, history, kitsch, or mid century design.

(Also, heeey! It’s been… a year. I’m the worst at posting! The end.)

Started from the bottom, and now we're here. In time for Christmas.

It's been two years to the day since my last post. Balsam Knoll was still in its infancy when the pandemic hit, and instead of shifting to e-design, we shifted to homeschooling, cooking and baking, and an existential crisis about the future and if it included continuing with design. And by "we", I mean "me", because Balsam Knoll is currently a one-woman show. As 2020 rolled into 2021, I knew that I didn't want to stop designing, so I decided to tackle the final phase of renovations in my own home, which had been neglected while I focused energy elsewhere. One part of that renovation project was this kitchen, which has changed in phases, because some fixer uppers take years and multiple phases to complete (and sometimes budgets and resources don’t align for a big reveal, so the reveals are smaller and in multiples). For the sake of brevity, the middle phases of this project have been omitted.

TLDR: I was gone but now I'm back, more project reveals coming soon, new website coming soon, etc.

Sometimes you need to live in a space before the inspiration for its design fully reveals itself. In the case of this bedroom at the , it took upward of six months for inspiration to strike, and it struck in the form of a handmade sign by a local artist.
We finished this room and shot images today, and I can’t wait to share it with you soon.

When it comes to fall decor, my personal preference is subtlety over all-out autumn. But come December, all bets are off. Current status: using all of my willpower to keep the holiday decor in storage until the day after Thanksgiving. How about you? Are you team , or are you ready to move on?

Greetings from the project that keeps going, like the Energizer Bunny. The was complete by June 1, with one exception: landscaping. Crazy weather, materials delays, etc. extended this project longer than expected, but soon the finishing touches will be in, just in time for fall.
Also, greetings from an unused social media account on the other side of summer. The project above was a huge one, where I was both designer and project manager (and sometimes apprentice carpenter) with a 1.5-man GC crew. Everything else in my life slid for the better part of a year, including being a present parent. I loved this project, and all of its challenges, but to everything there is a season, and summer was a season to restore balance. I’ve been able to mostly take the summer off, and have had a wonderful, limited-social media summer with my daughter. Real life hashtag-blessed.
