I really did not know what I wanted to build, just wanted to build something. I bought a few tools and I started watching YouTube videos to learn how to do certain things and that's when I came across Woodworking for Mere Mortals. I signed up for the Weekend Woodworker class and started building. After a few builds I realized just how much I love doing this and I really could not wait till I start
my next project. There was a whole lot of learning curve, and to be honest still is. There was so much going through my head that I wanted to build and didn't know where to start or even which project I wanted to start with. I only have a few hours a week to get in the shop to build and that's OK as this was just a hobby. So when I did have my mind set on what to build and how, I really got after it. I do have a full time job, I am married so I do have an active life. People always ask to see pictures of what I built and I was more than happy to share because I am proud of what I made. After a few builds my phone camera was filling up and it was cumbersome to scroll through so in January 2022 I started loading my woodworking journey on Instagram. This just made it quicker to share the whole journey in one place with everyone. You can find the link to my IG below. Go check it out. I have made a few things for clients, gave away some stuff to friends and family but mostly made things that I wanted or my wife wanted for our house. The idea of doing this as a business was always joked about and around April 2022 I started playing around with business names and drawing logos just to see if something stuck with me. On December 28, 2022 I chose Grafton Custom Woodworking as my name, I know simple right but this is who I am and what I do so let's just go with it. On January 12, 2023 YouTubers Jennie and Davis posted the Box O' Scrap Challenge that I was lucky to be able to enter. This was what made me put my big kid paints on and just go for it. Finalize a business name, create a YouTube channel, Create a website, the full works, make it official.
