Wednesday Wisdom 💡

One wrong move can destroy hours/days/weeks that have gone into building a custom piece - IYKYK.

Here's a quick tip to avoid having your drill pop through the other side. Avoid the tears with one easy step!

Back in May, we delivered this contemporary Walnut altar to Shalmon Life Church in Pinckney.

But we dropped the ball on one detail.

We hadn't considered how the altar would look from the congregation's perspective once it was elevated, which left some of the metalwork underneath more visible than we intended.

So, when they reached back out, we came back and added a Walnut skirt to conceal the metalwork and give the altar a more finished appearance from every angle.

We're much happier with the end result, and more importantly, they are too! Now the altar can quietly complement the space without anything underneath distracting from what really matters during a service.

Behind the scenes! 🎬

Last week we teased pictures of some beautiful live edge hickory slabs that we got cleaned up for the next phase of the project. Enter next phase - glue up day!

We started this soon-to-be home office desk with a Pinterest inspiration photo from our client and we're looking forward to the final comparison once the build comes together. It'll be a mix of wood and metal with a special personal touch of course 😉

Be sure you're following to see this one come together!

88 days until Thanksgiving and 117 days until Christmas! 🦃🎄

It may feel a little early to be thinking about the holidays, but if this is the year you’re finally hosting, retiring the hand-me-down table, or giving your dining space a fresh look, now is the time to start dreaming it up.

Some of our own personal favorite memories happen gathered around the table with the people we love most (i.e. eating pie, playing euchre, swapping stories, sipping coffee).

That’s why we love creating dining tables around your family, your space, and all the people you hope to squeeze around it 🩵

If a new table has been on your wish list, reach out and tell us what you have in mind, we’d love to hear about it!

As a business owner, it's not often that we make the time to prioritize our own projects.

Well, Jess waited long enough and this past weekend her walnut coffee shelves finally went up. It was an easy rainy day project and she spent literally the entire day carefully curating the final look and staring at them every time she walked by. Should have done it sooner!

Wednesday Wisdom 💡

Ever wonder how we decide where the legs go on a dining table?

On a table this size, 8½ feet long, leg placement isn't just an aesthetic decision.

Move the legs too far toward the center and you lose valuable seating at the ends. Move them too close to the ends and you can change how the table is supported and potentially make getting around it less comfortable.

We also have to consider the size and style of the base, where chairs will naturally fall, how much knee and leg room guests need, and the overall proportions of the table.

With a custom dining table, those decisions can be made around how the client actually plans to use it rather than designing around a predetermined base location.

It's one of those details you probably won't notice when you look at the finished table, and that's honestly the point.

Good design should feel natural without making you wonder why it works.
