Brooklyn-based designer Shana Luther creates handbags that display her love of classic yet modern styles, as well as her belief in American manufacturing: All Shana Luther Handbags are made locally. Shana got her start in 1999, when she graduated from Pratt Institute and began designing her own bags un

der the label SML Bags. A one-woman show, she was involved in all aspects of the creative process—from sketches to final sewing of her leather and fabric bags. By 2012, Shana longed to design bags that went beyond what she could produce on her own. Inspired, she re-launched the label as Shana Luther Handbags, continuing to showcase her signature designs. Soon after their debut, numerous fashion magazines and blogs, such as Teen Vogue and The Pursuit of Style, featured the label, with Shana Luther Handbags becoming a finalist in Martha Stewart’s American Made Awards in 2013. In addition to that, Shana was chosen by American Express to participate in their OPEN Rising Stars of Fashion competition at Magic Market Week in Las Vegas in August 2014. She lives there happily with her husband, cofounder of Houses in Motion, an animation studio, and their charming new puppy, Jackie. For all inquiries, please contact:

We moved to the Hudson Valley almost three years ago so time for a home update. While I will always pine for Brooklyn, my family and I have been really happy up here and I’m managing to turn our white box of a house into a warm, inviting and cozy space.

Nothing happens overnight. Over the almost three years since we’ve been here I’ve been collecting and curating items to put in our home. My favorite vintage club chair was purchased for a Showhouse I did and now has found a perfect little spot in our living room. No, I did not plan on putting a navy blue sofa next to a navy blue island. But this is what we moved into and what we had from our BK apartment and it works for now. In the future I’d love to get 2 matching sofas (anything other than navy!) while having an extra area for two dope club chairs (for a future fireplace!). But that will come in time. I also want to paint this entire area in a warmer cozy color- thinking something creamy and earthy to bring more of the vibe in. New rug incoming from a sourcing trip to High Point Market and I will never stop swooning over the pair of solid wood extremely tall lamps that I pulled off the side of the road for (other one in my bedroom). I only paid $5 for both! One of my favorite purchases.

This is our home for now- messy but lived in. So many plans for her but it gives us a super comfy vibe that we feel good in- and what’s better than that? This is your reminder sometimes things don’t happen overnight and to trust the process. ❤️

When the world feels uncertain, home should feel steady. That’s not just a design philosophy. It’s the whole point. And honestly, it’s my favorite part of this work, helping clients find that feeling in their own four walls.

My past clients were totally on board when I proposed the pink dining room ceiling. I LOVE that they were totally game. I mean, who doesn’t want their dining room to glow during dinner??

Happy weekend everyone.

Life lately-

Sick of wearing sweaters and hats, but working on several amazing projects which I’m super grateful for, finding inspo in an old book with amazing stone floors, always maintaining my starter and making bread in my spare time, making my own candles, celebrating my oldest daughters 10th (😿) bday, enjoying family and friend time and am super ready to welcome spring! Some pics from clients homes and can’t wait to shoot more down the pipeline.

Who’s ready for spring?? ❤️

Weekend beauty 🤍

My wonderful clients wanted to carve out an additional lounge area for future Airbnb guests in their wooded Hudson Valley home- a spot to play games, read your book and cozy up to the fireplace.

The footprint was tight, so instead of forcing in another sofa, we opted for gorgeous velvet swivel chairs and a whimsical lounge chair that adds just the right personality (I’m always trying to inject a bit of whimsy into projects). I’m all about texture and this oversized, perfectly tactile ottoman really grounds the space, especially paired with a perfect vintage rug, which I LOVE the pattern on.

Swivel your chair towards the fire for a cozy morning, coffee in hand, woods just beyond, and nowhere else to be. This project was fun and big thanks to my clients! ❤️

No, I’m not turning into a product based business again. But I love home, I love good scents and I love burning candles.

I suffer from migraines and I find a lot of scents can trigger them for me. Not so with these- scents are clean and not overly chemy smelling (a big problem I find with a lot of scents). I make my candles with 100% soy wax and the scents are free of toxins and phthalates.

Oh and Lilac & Loam smells AMAZING- even my husband likes it and that’s saying a lot (trust me). Best way to describe the scent profile- gentle lilac and warm earth. What’s better than that? Especially with this looooonnngggg winter.

I’m making these for myself, friends and clients. DM me if you’re interested in buying one!

Closing out the week with a furnishing project I recently wrapped for the loveliest clients.

They needed two living areas fully furnished (this is the 1st), and we took cues from traditional English interiors- richly layered, relaxed, and meant to feel lived-in from day one. Linen curtains and relaxed roman shades, patterned vintage rugs, warm woods, velvet and leather seating, and a few vintage pieces to give the space soul.

I especially love this extra-long vintage coffee table refurbished by paired with the generous sofa- the proportions really ground the room and make everything feel comfy and effortless 🏠

The result is warm, inviting, and collected and a home that feels like it’s evolved over time, not decorated overnight. I love how this one turned out! Oh swipe for our mood board ➡️

A little kitchen with a lot of intention. 🚰

Part of our Uptown Kingston project, this space was transformed from a once closed-off room into a refined, highly functional green kitchen. We opened up the layout, added a dedicated pantry, and designed an oak petite island that doubles as a breakfast nook.

Thoughtful details, rich color, and smart planning prove that great design isn’t about square footage, it’s about how a space lives. One of my favorite kitchens to date oh and the clients are the most amazing and wonderfully kind I hope they invite me to dinner sometime soon😉😉❤️
