I cut and make them myself in my home studio which had been my now-grown son’s bedroom! He’s out and the kiln is in. Good riddance (Only kidding)! Fused glass is made up of multiple layers of clear or colored glass fired in a kiln whose temperature can reach 1465 degrees. Most items are at least two sheets of glass fused together. Through the heating process two or three layers of glass meld into

a single piece. A slow cooling period ensures the piece is robust. For my designs, the base is usually a clear or a white layer with a second colored piece added on top. If a creative design has been added, it requires an additional third layer. The whole firing/cooling cycle takes over 20 hours to complete. Items that are shaped with a mold (such as plates, bowls, soap dishes, candle holders) will then take an additional 19 hours in the kiln to slump or drape to the shape of the mold. This is how I create a unique whimsical piece. I am relatively new to this hobby but I have been enjoying being creative. It is so much fun to select the glass and decide on what to create. It has become addictive! I like using lots of different colors of glass. I like making pieces that make people smile. I hope that the pieces that I create make you smile. Today was a first for me. Today I went to the Lancaster County Animal Shelter located at 2074 Pageland Highway in Lancaster, SC. A friend and I went to hang out with the cats! They were very sweet and so happy to have some attention. We hung around and patted them, held them, talked to them. They were very happy to have some company. They also had a ton of adorable kittens! After visiting with the cats, we met some nice dogs looking for new homes.

If you are into dogs, the Lancaster County Animal Shelter and TD Bank Indian Land are holding a National Dog Rescue Day from 10am – 3:30pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at TD Bank Indian Land, 8179 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land, SC. They will have dogs there that can be adopted! This could be your chance to find your new furever friend. Make their day and yours.

Today, I helped at the Lancaster Animal Shelter Supporters (LASS) table at the craft fair. I donated some glass pieces. It was so nice of so many people to come out and give donations, buy raffle tickets, luncheon tickets and make purchases. It is greatly appreciated.
LASS Luncheon to be held on April 30, 2026 at the Lodge. It is a fun and worthwhile event.

Friends of LASS (Friends of Lancaster Animal Shelter Supporters) will be participating in the upcoming SCCL Spring Craft Fair scheduled for March 21 from 10am to 2pm at the Lake House. The mission of the Friends of Lass club is to provide volunteer support and funding for stray and unwanted cats and dogs received by the Lancaster Animal Shelter.

I have created some fun fused glass pieces that I will be donating to them. Pieces are garden stakes, garden scenes with display stands, love suncatchers and dog face magnets. All of the proceeds from the sales of these pieces will go directly to Friends of LASS. They will also have other items for sale at their table. Please stop by their table on Saturday and support them. Thank you.
