There is something so deeply grounding about the weight of a real book in your hands. Lately, I’ve been noticing a shift—the age of analog is making a beautiful, quiet comeback. More and more, especially with a younger generation, people are stepping away from the screens and choosing to consume written material in the tactile, intentional form of physical books.

When you start treating your library as a collection of stories rather than just data on a tablet, the way you display those stories changes.

That’s where pieces like this pair come in. Bookends are so much more than just a functional object to keep pages upright. To me, they present a prime opportunity to layer in style, texture, and deep personality into our rooms. They are the punctuation marks of a bookshelf.

These vintage, ribbed sage half-moon bookends—with that perfectly tooled, scalloped detailing you can see in these images—are exactly how you add character and charm into a modernized library. They bridge the gap between old-world heritage and clean, modern functionality, giving your favorite reads a proper place to rest.

How do you style your favorite books? Are you team "color-coordinated" or do you prefer the beautiful, layered chaos of a well-read shelf?

Sometimes you just have to take the leap.

When this piece first came into the studio, it was a heavy, dark stained corner shelf. Beautiful, but carrying a completely different energy. The client’s vision? A true, old-world Italian Florentine giltwood finish.

I’ve spent years working with different textures, paints, and metallics, but replicating this specific style meant experimenting with a new rhythm. I layered an off-white chalk paint into the deepest grooves, followed by a warm, luminous metallic base, and finished it with a deep umber antiquing glaze to create those rich, naturally aged shadows.

The result feels less like a paint job and more like a piece of history that’s been sitting in a sun-drenched Tuscan villa for two hundred years. The texture, the warmth, the way the gold catches the light—it’s exactly where it was meant to be.

Task completed. Onto the next creation. ⚜️

Taking the "vintage" out of the grime, but keeping all the soul ✨ There is nothing a little Bar Keepers Friend and some elbow grease can’t restore.

In our house, we love pieces that carry a history, but a little routine maintenance goes a long way in preserving that character for years to come. In this video, "Vintage Metal Decor Care!", you can see just how easy it is to bring that original luster back to life.

I get asked about my process a lot. My process may be slower than others, but I put in the time and proper steps. This was a lesson | learned the hard way. But when I did. It sure paid off.

When I first began refinishing furniture, I had rough textures when I was done. Those clients never came back for more of my work. Unfortunately I was terrified to sand my paint and topcoat layers. There was no amount of content for me to consume to assure me in this very important step. One day I gave in and tried it.

What foolishness to not listen to those that had the experience. What happened once I embraced the sanding step? My work got much better. Clients became regulars. My value increased.

You can not make anyone do a thing until they are ready. I only wish I had not been so stubborn and Mr. Know It All at the time! Because I should have been sanding the paint on my furniture rehabs from the beginning. I strongly recommend anyone working with paint on furniture and walls to give it a try. Then come back and tell me how things went.

Happy Friday and happy painting!
