Highlight reel! This month has been rich with learning opportunities.
I was blown away by my first painting workshop experience. is an amazing teacher! I learned so much about intentionally in design, and creating a real sense of light (starting with understanding your light source, and obeying the laws of light). Working in the same space as other artists was a treat as well, and I'm encouraged to both paint in groups and get outside more with my art. The painting I did at the workshop was slop, but so it goes... my skill decreases 15% when I'm around accomplished artists 😅 It's good to be both humbled and inspired!!
Another awesome experience was visiting Boston and spending as much time as I could at the (between 24hr+ snow removal shifts). I couldn't believe the art I saw. Never cared for Claude Monet until I saw his work in person... A couple other favorites from the museum were paintings by Frits Thaulow, Eugene Ciceri, and Sargent. Great paintings have so much physical presence. Pictures just don't do justice.
The rest of the month was filled with studio paintings, focusing on stroke efficiency and strong light, and sketching on location.
My most recent project is a series of Championship paintings for Purina , who sponsor the National Retriever Trials and National Amateur Retriever Trials. Looking forward to sharing the paintings after they're awarded in March!
Looking forward to all February has to offer, and wishing everyone a wonderful month of growth and joy 🫶🏻
