A big win for Interior Design in Missouri!
After years of advocacy by interior designers across the state, Missouri SB 1233 was signed into law last month, marking an important step forward for our profession.
I’m pictured with my friend and colleague Susan Stevenson, Professor of Interior Design at UCM, who was among the local designers who spent years advancing this legislation. Susan is holding a copy of SB 1233, and I’m proudly holding my Missouri Certified Interior Designer license.
Professional interior design goes far beyond creating beautiful spaces. Qualified designers bring expertise in space planning, building codes, accessibility, construction, lighting, materials, and how people interact with the built environment.
One of the most significant aspects of SB 1233 is that it creates a pathway for qualified interior designers to independently sign and seal technical documents within the defined scope of interior design, recognizing the education, experience, examination, and responsibility our profession requires.
We’re especially grateful to Susan and the many Missouri designers whose years of advocacy helped make this possible.
