Israel is set to perform the world’s first spinal cord implant using a patient’s own cells, Tel Aviv University announced.

Led by Prof. Tal Dvir and biotech firm Matricelf, the groundbreaking procedure aims to restore mobility in paralysed patients by replacing damaged tissue with lab-grown spinal cords.

Approved for “compassionate use” trials in Israel, the innovation has already shown success in animals. If effective in humans, it could transform treatment for millions with spinal injuries worldwide, allowing patients to walk again.
