Gives me Hemingway islandy vibes.
Back in the 1950's and before central air conditioning became the norm, lots of new homes came with Jalousie windows and doors installed. Also known as a louvered window, a Jalousie is made of several security glass or aluminum impact resistant slats that open simultaneously. Jalousie is the French word for "jealousy".
Because of their slatted louvres, jalousie windows protect the interior of the house from jealous, peering eyes when not made of a transparent material like glass. These pictured were made by the Ludman Corporation that was founded in 1936. Their main office and plant was located in Miami, Florida.
