Here is a backing decision we wish more quilters made in person!

Bring the quilt top.

Do not try to remember whether that blue was navy, denim, teal-ish or “somewhere between those two.” Lay the actual quilt against the fabric!

Florique comes in everything from cream and white to blue, green, purple, red and brighter choices and sometimes the color you thought would match is not the one that makes the quilt look best.

If you love batiks but usually reach for brighter tropical colors, take a second look at Boho Batiks!

The sage, cream, soft orange, brown and muted green give you the depth and movement of batik without pushing the quilt in one specific direction.

We can see these working beautifully in a scrappy quilt, a softer modern pattern or something made for a child that you would still be happy to have draped across your living room ten years from now.

Before you choose the backing, decide what you want the quilting to do!

Want the stitches to disappear a little? Choose a Shades backing close to your thread color. Want all that quilting to show? Give yourself more contrast.

That is one reason we like a textured wide back. You get more visual interest than a flat solid but the print is quiet enough that your quilting can still be part of the decision.
