It belonged to my grandfather, Mulate Guidry, who could fry fish like nobody’s business and always had a pot of something good simmering on the stove.It’s part of a small collection he used for decades—cooking meals that filled the house with the smell of garlic, smoke, and stories. This one’s a No. 9 skillet, probably made back when cast iron was built to outlive the cook. You can still see the heat ring and that classic handle shape. It’s worn, a little rusty in spots, and there’s a golden patch near the edge that looks like it remembers the last roux Mulate stirred.I’m about to give it a full clean and re-seasoning—not to make it look new, but to bring it back to life, the way it was meant to be used.
