Tiny Bit of Wood

Tiny Bit of Wood First generation woodworking school. Environmentally conscious woodworking and furniture. Woman owned
(1)

We use locally-sourced wood and re-purposed materials to make beautiful, unique works of art, woodwork, and furniture. We build new, usable pieces from materials that would otherwise be disposed of. Trees are precious gifts that should be left to grow and not cut down, and our goal is to allow the natural beauty of reclaimed wood to create beautiful works of art.

Life can throw some major curve balls and all at once.

Just when I thought I’d be returning to the shop our lil bu**er has been handed some more challenges. My wife and I are the best team and will handle all of this with love.

The shop has pretty much completely run out of money so please don’t forget about it while I get my family settled.

I still hope to get out a new schedule for Aug-Oct soon to keep things going.

I do have a few classes up now that I think are pretty cool for you to check out.

Making your own paint is my favorite one so far!

I don’t like putting the shop on the back burner but my tiny newborn is the best reason to not care about the rest of the world for a moment.

Wood sculpture is a class your not going to want to miss!!

Think of this class less as woodworking and more as people hitting trees with things until art happens. You will dive into a pile of lumber and saw, chisel, scrape, shave, split, burnish, etc. your way to a unique, crafted wooden object the only purpose of which is aesthetic delight.

“Is that bark flaking off your sculpture?”
“You bet! Also watch out for this part you’ll get splinters.”
“Ok, thanks!”

Over three sessions, students of all experience levels will explore the creative potential of shaping, joining, and texturing wood using hand tools. The instructor will guide you through material selection, and the safe application of various hand tools. Instruction will be specific to the creative and learning goals of each student but topics may include:

- properties of wood (grain, hardness, moisture)
- separating (sawing, breaking, riving)
- shaping (gouging, chiseling, shaving, planing, filing)
- joining (traditional joints, inventing joints, gluing)
- texturing (sanding, scraping, using shapers to texture)
- finishing (why we finish, types of finish, creative finishing)

Students will be producing original work and will have an opportunity to exhibit in Tiny Bit of Wood’s June Gallery.

Tool where made for men much taller then I so when I use a table saw I have to reach over a lot farther.

This is why you’ll never see me with strings in my sweatshirts.
