Third time’s a charm. Three (x two sheets of glass) finally etched to my satisfaction. Whew. (I also edged and soldered the original piece of antique glass as a gift). I kept trying to work out why I was having such a difficult time using the Amrour Etch without scratches and scorched marks. I saw several online tips about warming the bottle (in hot water) to dissolve the crystals - I tried this technique…for days. No luck in dissolving the large crystals. Finally it came to me…around 3am.😉 Just sieve the crystals out of the paste. It worked! It took some time because of the large patches of design, I had to work in quadrants. Ah well, I’m happy with the results. Now, on to other art projects.

Well, this project went off the rails. I remember using Armour Etch for something in the past (a commemorative wine bottle?). Whatever it was I’m sure it wasn’t anything this large (2) 12”x12” pieces of flat glass. I even did test samples. My final results were patchy, blotchy and scratched. Dang! And, I was 90% done. I’m headed back to for some more glass. Wish me luck. By the way, I’ve since scoured the internet for etching tips. I’ll be better prepared next time.

Commissioned etched glass project. I’m drafting a design to be scanned into my Silhouette vinyl cutting machine. I’ll use this design as the “negative” for the etching paste. Final windows will be placed into an antique Hoosier Cabinet.
