Your Body Was Never the Enemy

Sometimes we think we’re lazy…
unmotivated…
too emotional…
too tired…

But many women are actually living in a CONSTANT state of stress response.

The body was designed to protect us.
And when life has been heavy for a long time, our nervous system can forget how to rest.

That’s where the vagus nerve comes in.

The vagus nerve helps regulate:
-stress
-anxiety
-breathing
-heart rate
-digestion
-emotional safety

When we gently stimulate it, we help tell the body:

“You are safe now.”

And sometimes healing doesn’t begin with striving…
Sometimes it begins with slowing down enough to breathe again.

Here are 3 gentle exercises I use to help calm the nervous system and reconnect with the body God lovingly designed.

To every mother…
The ones who carried babies.
The ones who carried burdens.
The ones who carried families, grief, dreams, disappointments, and prayers no one else ever saw.

Today we honor you. 🤍

At His Banner Over Us, we believe motherhood is more than a title—it is movement.
A constant pouring out.
A stretching.
A strengthening.
A becoming.

Some of you nurtured children from your own womb.
Some mother through mentorship, friendship, leadership, foster care, ministry, teaching, caregiving, or simply through the healing presence you bring into the lives around you.

And some are carrying silent ache today.
Missing mothers.
Longing to become mothers.
Grieving children.
Healing from hard stories.

There is space for all of us here.

May today remind you that your value was never tied to perfection, performance, or how much you were able to hold together.

You are already deeply loved.
Already seen.
Already worthy.

“His banner over me is love.” — Song of Songs 2:4

From all of us at His Banner Over Us, Happy Mother’s Day to the women who continue to move through life with courage, tenderness, resilience, and grace.

Keep coming back to yourself.
Keep coming back to Abba.
Keep coming back to the beautiful truth that there is still purpose, strength, and joy ahead of you.

With love,
HBOU 🤍

At His Banner Over Us, we believe healing and identity are often revealed layer by layer. 💙✨

This weekend, we had the incredible honor of participating in the Power Her Forward Girls Conference hosted by the Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley.

Thank you to Krystle Ellis and the entire WFGV team for creating spaces where young women can encounter mentorship, creativity, leadership, and authentic encouragement.

HBOU founder Glenda Miller led an Art Expression session titled “Layers of Who I Am,” where participants created textured tissue paper artwork symbolizing their identity journeys.

Each layer represented something different:
✨ Experiences
✨ Emotions
✨ Strength
✨ Healing
✨ Dreams
✨ The parts of ourselves still unfolding

What made the session so powerful was that no two pieces looked alike — yet every single one carried beauty and meaning.

Events like this remind us why creative expression matters so deeply. Art can become language when words are hard to find. It can help young women process who they are, where they’ve been, and who they are becoming.

We are especially grateful that all three of Glenda’s daughters attended this year, including Lashae Mino who served as moderator for the “Life After High School” panel discussion. Watching multiple generations of women grow, lead, and support one another is exactly the kind of legacy-building that changes communities.

Thank you, WFGV, for pouring into the next generation with such intentionality and care. 💕

So many women have learned to disconnect in order to survive. But healing doesn’t start with pushing harder…it starts with reconnecting gently. Movement can be that bridge. Not performance. Not pressure. Just a return to true identity. 💛 It’s never too late to love your body back to wholeness.

I used to think…

➡️ If I couldn’t do it fully, it didn’t count
➡️ If I missed a few days, I had to start over
➡️ If it didn’t feel hard, it wasn’t working

And honestly?
That mindset kept me stuck longer than anything else.

What changed everything was this:

💛 My body wasn’t the problem
💛 It didn’t need punishment
💛 It needed consistency, patience, and care

That’s when things began to shift—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

If you’ve been stuck in that cycle… you’re not alone.

And you’re not behind.

You just need a new way forward.

We think consistency means doing everything perfectly.

It doesn’t.

It means continuing…
even when it’s imperfect.

💛 Start where you are.

So many of us learned to move our bodies for performance…
For appearance…
For survival.

But what if movement was never meant to disconnect us from who we are—
What if it was meant to restore us?

Identity Through Movement is the practice of using gentle, intentional movement to reconnect with who God says we are—not who life demanded us to become.

Your body remembers.
Your spirit speaks.
And movement can become a sacred language between the two.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
— Ephesians 2:10

This isn’t about burning calories.
It’s about coming home.

✨ Move gently.
✨ Listen deeply.
✨ Reclaim your God-given identity—one breath, one step, one stretch at a time.

📖 “Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10

Stillness is an act of faith.
When we pause, we declare that God is enough—even when we stop doing.

🧘‍♀️ Body Practice:
Legs Up the Wall – 5–10 minutes

🙏 Prayer:
Lord, I release control and rest under Your covering today.
