As a mom, I’ve learned that a well designed home doesn’t have to be untouchable. It just has to work for the way your family actually lives.

You don’t need more stuff, you just need a different perspective.

Let me explain.

Sometimes the room isn’t the problem, it’s how you’re seeing it. That awkward corner you don’t know what to do with? Maybe it needs less furniture, better scale, or a new layout.

And that piece you’ve been thinking about getting rid of? It might just need to be styled differently.

Before you buy something new, rearrange everything, or start over completely, take a step back. Look at the space from a different angle. Sometimes the best design solutions aren’t adding more. It’s seeing what you already have differently.

3 things I’d invest in when designing a home

1. Millwork & Architectural Details
Trim, molding, beams, paneling, and built-ins give the home depth and character

2. Custom Cabinetry
Good storage and thoughtful function will pay you back every single day

3. Flooring
Opt for wood flooring for your main spaces. This sets the tone for the rest of the house

Use Pinterest as a tool, not a blueprint.

👏🏼I don’t want to recreate the same space over and over again👏🏼

Instead, use inspiration to identify what you’re drawn to. Is it the colors, the textures, the materials, the silhouettes, the artwork, the way the space makes you feel?

Then layer in the pieces that tell your story. Your favorite art, meaningful objects, heirlooms, etc.

Recreating the exact same trending space you see everywhere is what dates a home. At the end of the day, your home should reflect the people that live in it.

This is how you create a home that feels timeless.
