Space planning and interior design involves technical understanding of the built environment, a background in style and industry history, and a passion for pairing functionality with aesthetic. As a student of interior design at the Interior Design Institute in Newport Beach, CA, I am educated in hand drafting and space planning, architectural systems and finishes, the properties and histories of
a diversity of interior design styles, interior components and finishes, furniture construction and selection, theories of design and composition, color theory and the relevance of light, building materials and their proper applications, building codes and regulations, and continue to further my education with IDI today. Aside from a technical background in interior design and architecture, my life-long devotion to art and a general openness to trying new (and sometimes unorthodox) things lends to my ability as a space planner and interior designer. I’ve always been an avid do-it-yourself-er and think outside of the box to find solutions. I credit my two grandmothers for introducing me to the limitless world of art and nurturing my creative spirit from a young age, allowing me to experiment and express myself through a variety of art mediums. I continue to reserve an hour of each day for creative activity–whether it’s a knitting project, creating an ink and watercolor painting, or something entirely different! My decision to become an interior designer came late after I had committed years of my education and to preparing for a career in diplomacy, and through the years I have found that the tenants applied in international relations truly parallel the skills needed to effectively cater to customer service in business. Equipped with a natural gift of empathy and an ambition to get things right, I treat every client with respect and dignity, listening to their key issues and making sure I understand their ideas. I never make design decisions without giving my clients an option to weigh-in and consent.
