There’s something about this landscape that always gets me. The strange shapes, open desert, huge sky and those unmistakable Joshua trees make it feel like nowhere else.

Kicking off National Park Week with one of my absolute favorites: Great Sand Dunes National Park.

National parks have always been one of my biggest sources of artistic inspiration. The color, scale, landscape, light, texture… I can come back to the same place over and over and still see something completely different every time.

This Great Sand Dunes piece was inspired by that incredible contrast of sweeping sand dunes against the mountains. It’s one of those landscapes that almost doesn’t look real.

Every day this week I’ll be sharing a different National Park-inspired piece, so if you love the parks as much as I do, follow along. I’ve got some good ones coming.

My first time on Martha’s Vineyard was 1980. Been coming to the island ever since. I first introduced DiDi to the island (and to my family) in 2016. Our trips as a couple (now family) to Martha’s Vineyard looks a little different every summer. Some more drastically different than others. I’ll never get tired of creating landscapes. There’s just something about taking the feeling of a place and stripping it down to shape, color and memory.

This National Parks series has been one of my favorites to work on. From Yosemite and Joshua Tree to the Grand Canyon, Zion, Acadia and beyond. A little piece of the outdoors, reimagined the Walker Noble Studios way. 🌲🏜️🏔️
