We recently had an addition put on our house. Instead of using block for the footing, like we had agreed on, they used the foam forms filled with concrete. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can cover the foam up so it looks better. Our contractor insists on using groundbreaker, a roll of plastic or vinyl that you just glue on. I have no faith in any adhesive holding to the Styrofoam. I would greatly appreciate any advice or ideas on how to make this look better. Located in south west Minnesota where the temp can vary quite a bit so need something that can stand up to this.
Thanks!

We just purchased century home built in 1848. We decided with the wall and ceiling damage to tear out the old plaster and are currently redoing the walls with wainscoting and a deep blue. This is only coat one we are in the process of slowly painting it all. We are in the process of deciding how to restore the fireplace. I don’t know that I love the whitewash and don’t know if anyone has any opinions on if it would look better natural stone? Does anyone have any experience stripping paint from stone or should I leave it as is? While we were insulating windows and removing trim to do so we did find the original wall paper. I now feel bummed as I thought a solid jewel tone would be close to original. Any advice would be awesome!

Are these able to be salvaged?

We inherited hardwood floors in a 1950s Cape. They are so torn up that you can get blisters if you walk just right. We’re tight on disposable income and I’m wondering if these can be saved? If so, in an economical way? A temporary “bandaid” until we could do a “better” upgrade? This is what the majority of our first floor looks like.

Hey is anyone familiar with this type of siding? It is wood, I believe tongue and groove. Does it have a name? The corners are finished with a half round. I’m doing a historic renovation on my building and want to match this siding. Any help is much appreciated appreciated.

Our 1935 Cottage style home has great windows, unfortunately most of them are painted shut. Just finished freeing up a couple of them. Works great with the door across the house for a cool breeze! Only a few more windows to go! Ready to restore Pearl (short for Pearlene, which is what we named the house) back to her former glory.

Update to my flooring adventures. Floors underneath the vinyl are great, the floor I started on was already painted underneath the primer overspray. Going one board at a time with 50grit belt sander. Goes quick honestly. Boards are cupped so im doing it by hand, definitely not ideal but I like them the way they are. I think the boards are heart pine. All varying in width. House was built in 1795.

We recently had our windows restored and our living room painted, and now I’m thinking about painting our fireplace a different color. It’s a big space, so nothing too dramatic. Any suggestions?

I need HVAC advice. I recently remodeled a 3 story stone mill (c. 1763) and was sold on installing Mitsubishi Whole House heat pumps. (I've got three--one for each floor.) They worked great in the summer for cooling. But this cold winter in Philadelphia is a disaster! Even though they run non-stop, my first floor never gets above 44 degrees. Second floor about 55. My electric bill this month will be $3000!

I don't know what to do! Do I add a propane whole house heater? (No access to natural gas, and I don't want oil.)
