Ok. So the peg loom rug didn't look right in our wee hallway (and the door caught on it because it's so chunky) time for a NEW PLAN!
#2 on my homemaker agenda was originally supposed to be some tufted bench cushions for our dining table - that's now going to be project #3. I still need to get this hallways adorned. It's Project Mak a Hoose a Hame after all.

In 2020/21 I started making tufted drip rugs (if you bought one, PLEASE show me where it lives now), and last year I made a few that I didn't really do anything with. So in place of the rug that's had to move out of the hallway, I'm going to make a couple of drip rugs, like this neon one from last year, to sit in the hallway. I always worry about using wool in my tufting machine, especially since it's so expensive here... but I have a tonne, and I need to actually start using it!

Our hallways is long, but thin, and I'm thinking one by the bedroom door under a wall cabinet, and one dripping out from the hallway, under a door and into the spare room. Ambitious? Maybe. Mostly concerned I'll find all the piece of my tufting frame after moving studios

Cannot believe no one needs a one of a kind neon, tufted, vintage church pew. It's surprisingly comfy.

I didn't film any of the finishing up because I DIY'd and kinda guessed how to tie those warp ends in... but it's done, and for where it will go, I'm feeling good about it. I think eventually I'll need to tighten it up a bit, but I couldn't tell how much yarn was in those massive rolls, and it ended up less than expected. It's a little shorter than hoped because I didn't tighten it as much as I normally would (the weft is pretty loose), but again - it's done and will be going in my hallway tonight. Well done, me!

I'm in love with this thing already, and so excited to finish it. I didn't even realise how much was hanging off the table before finishing up for the day - I love being in the creative ZONE.

Making things with yir own hands is so special. Fiber art is amazing, and don't let the world fool you into believing that just because it's a functional thing, not hanging in a gallery, or just a scrappy rug made with love and intention just for yourself, that it isn't a work of art. Everyone is an artist.

Lead a quiet life, mind yir ow business, work with yir hands.

Pretty nosey, and desperate to not waste my one and only life, so basically only working with my hands... but it sounds good. I'm making new things for my new house and feeling excited to put my stamp on the space. We are planning to have a wee flat warming and the placid that I'll have ticked all the projects off my list before we finally have visitors, so wish me luck!

It's my two and a half year LA-aversary. It's been... literally the hardest thing I've ever done, and tbh, continues to be really hard. I didn't think I'd still miss home so much. I thought I'd ~really~ feel part of a creative community by now. I thought I'd feel at home. I thought I'd have stopped speaking about these struggles by now! I just maybe thought I'd feel less disconnected by now.

As I've mentioned, after 2 years of trying to crack 'the market', 'find my niche' or 'find my client', I'm giving up and focusing on making gifts for folks and stuff for me. I have given punch needle and jewellery a rest because I want to be more intentional about the creative bit - not focus on functionality and sell-ability. For the past couple of months I've been learning new skills and working out how I can incorporate them into my practice. I've made a couple of quilts, I've plant dyed some baby blankets, I made a wire sculpture and I've been spinning my own yarn. It's been so fulfilling and FUN.

We moved unexpectedly to Pasadena, and I'm trying my best to feel at home here, but I've heard slow and steady wins the race. After two years, I could finally drive places without sat-nav, had my coffee spots, and my studio was a stones throw away in Lincoln Heights - and now I have to learn to settle down all over again. I don't want it to be a struggle, but it feels tough and tiring. So! We went to the PCC flea last weekend and I bought some vintage kimono silks I'm going to dye and patch into drapes for our bedroom, as well as a Noren curtain for our kitchen. I sourced some incredible felted wool to weave into a rug for our tiny hallway, and I'm going to tuft a seating pad for a new bench seat at our dinner table. Paul already hung a couple of my weavings, and tonnes of artwork we've collected, and I'm grateful and feeling excited about these new additions 🧶

Happy anniversary to me!
