If anyone tells me this isn’t a Matilija poppy water feature I will be very surprised. But regardless of whether it’s a California native flower or not, it is simply beautiful, don’t you think?!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Of all the little extras you can add into an outdoor space, I feel like water features give you the biggest bang for the buck.. I mean really, they are visually compelling, peaceful sounding, and also provide water for all the critters, birds, butterflies and bees in a garden.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Before falling into a little RL vs IG slump, I had a lovely time in Ojai visiting with around her stomping grounds! Michelle took me to the cool places and lavished me with birthday treats, both edible and non... thank you lovely! This fountain is close to the wonderful Ojai farmers market, so if you’re here and you see this on a Sunday, be sure to find the market too!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ojai is a fun place to visit and only just about 1.5 hours outside of LA. If you want to stay in an uber-cool spot, rent your own airstream at . You will not want to leave, I promise 😊

Spaghetti squash pancakes, gluten and dairy free, coming up 🧡
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think these tints of saffron, sea glass & turquoise blues work well for Day 4 of ’s challenge, .
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This challenge calls for you to really think about colors you are incorporating in your composition, even specifically, to look at a color wheel and figure out what type of color selections you are using, i.e. complementary, analogous, or monochromatic..
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In this case, maybe I’m pushing it a bit to call these straight complementary colors, but the blues, yellows and oranges are pretty certainly split-complementary colors! (My color theory teacher would be proud of me!)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This color combination is one that I love, though not quite as much as turquoise and red (close relation tho), which is my favorite Christmas combination. I tend to like the split complementary color combos a lot more that the straight up colors that are directly opposite on the color wheel, such as red and green - traditional Christmas colors.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s funny how we gravitate towards certain favorite color combinations, possibly without even consciously thinking about it 🌈
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m curious, what are your favorite color combinations, and do you even think about it when composing a photo?!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Finally, the thing is, even when I fry these up and serve with cranberry, zereshk & saffron relish, (thanks for reminding me I have some left over !) I will still be using spilt complementary colors!! ♥️🧡👗 (no turquoise heart, sad to say)

Layers ‘pon layers of Spanish tortilla prep for you Adventures In Cooking 😉😘and your challenge!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I mean what else am I gonna make on a cold-ish, rainy day with all these fresh eggs?!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s a quick tip, when you cook the potatoes and onions in scads of olive oil for the tortilla, if nothing else, add a generous amount of smoked paprika, hot or sweet. You won’t regret it 😋
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On another note, I really tried to make this image lighter Food Photos - Gourmand Pixels for But this is as good as I could get - and at noon, no less!!

Nature’s ornaments.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I had to go by Rolling Greens Nursey today in search of something for a client. I admit, I was looking forward to it because at this time of year, they utterly festoon their shop with the most lovely Christmas displays. Seeing’s how I haven’t been feeling especially “holiday” lately, it was a pleasing meander through lovely holiday p**n, completely justifiable as work related.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I did feel like a little kid for a minute with all the lights and twinkling bits, shiny with glitter & fake ice crystals though.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I shared the pretty baubles in my stories and I hope it gives you a little frisson of pleasure, contrived as it may be 😉
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Or, you can just look at this gorgeous display nature provides us, however ephemerally..

Rainy garden vignette 💚
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m so conflicted about rain. On the one hand, I love storms, any kind of rain from pouring to misting to gully-washing. And goodness knows we need it here in LA.. but working in the landscape business has really made me dread it - always worrying about getting behind schedule, things flooding, drainage and general chaos.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I really just want to enjoy it, all cozy & happy, knowing that the plants and environment in general are benefiting from this water, but no, here I am out first thing in the morning buying extra large tarps to place over a client’s project because despite my entreaties and detailed instructions to my crew, it wasn’t done properly before the rain started. Arrrghgh

Al fresco Sunday brunch for Monday 🤷‍♀️ A day late and a dollar short.. story of my life these days 🤣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I used the first 6 eggs from our chickens for a very yummy celebratory family shakshuka, homemade Turmeric & Nigella Seed bread along with an amazing selection of cheeses, French butter and other yum things brought by my ridiculously gourmand son, Jasper and his girlfriend Jessica 💕.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What a difference fresh eggs make! When I cracked them into the shakshuka, they each stayed in a tight mass, and the white actually remained on top of the egg as they cooked. Not only that, poaching these brand new eggs in the tomato-red pepper sauce, we ended up with something like a sous-vide egg. Really so magical!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In addition to our own eggs, I made the sauce with garden shish*to peppers and parsley. It’s funny how it raises a meal to a whole other level when you contribute ingredients to it that you have grown or helped produce!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Purely (of course) to further the cause of multiculturalism, we had Micheladas to drink at the feast, with some of the zillions of Mexican limes from our tree!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you haven’t tried this drink, I very highly recommend it.. It’s a Mexican style beer mixed with tomato juice, plenty of squeezed limes, pepper, salt and a little hot sauce, over ice..
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know it sounds weird, but as a brunch drink, it’s very refreshing and not so strong as a Bloody Mary!

Now, I normally never buy roses, especially these kind, but I was suckered in by this beautiful antique faded pinkish color, I admit it. I may have to grow some that are this color so I don’t succumb to temptation again.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They do make me a bit sad though, because there is virtually no scent, and goodness knows where they were grown, so it’s double naughty.. but goddammit, after yesterday, I need some of this peaceful beauty 🤣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, how often do something you know you shouldn’t?!

I hope your Thanksgiving was lovely! Mine was stressful, what with floods, falls, breakages, and other minor disasters, but damn, hell and high water, at least the table looked pretty.

My chickens’ first eggs!
❤️🐤❤️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Went to clean the chicken coop and found these beauties!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I wasn’t expecting them to lay til spring, so it was a big surprise. I’m assuming it was one or both of the two new younger crooks?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To those of you with chickens, these are very pale, almost pink brown - so pretty! But I’m curious when hen they came from, or maybe it’s one of each. Of the two new chickens one is a Buff Orphington, Henrietta, and the other, Georgina, a Black S*x Link (a cross between a Barred Rock and a Rhode Island Red).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Georgina is the bossy, loud one and she was actually in the laying box this morning, but maybe it was Henrietta, my dingbat chicken?!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Anybody have an idea whose eggs these look like?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Anyways, this is pretty much the highlight of my Thanksgiving week (my life is so exciting 🤣)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since they are so gorgeous, I decided on a commemorative photograph following the guidelines of the challenge, which is to use examples of layering in the photo 🐣

Quick trip to the in between work! Not my ideal Sunday, but had to fit in some fun somewhere, right?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was bustling since Thanksgiving is next week, and some amazing produce is waiting is waiting to be transformed into holiday table fare. If you are local, it’s not too late - they close at 2pm!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Say what you will about southern Cali, but fires, drought, heat, there are still plenty of wonderful local fruit & veg to chooses from.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Strawberries & tomatoes in November - is that still seasonal 🤔🤭🤷‍♀️
