Initial sketches and first loose watercolour layers for a new traditional, print design. This piece will be entirely hand created and repeated, as I aim to honour the old techniques of this practice.

This is one of my first new pieces apart of my new “signature print” series, which I will slowly be working on over the next year. A new chapter for Britt LaSpina Designs 🩷

Excited to be sharing a behind the scenes look into a print I was commissioned to create 🌸

This artwork was hand painted in watercolour and designed into a seamless repeatable pattern.

This print was rightfully, a crowd favourite. I’m loving seeing so many enjoy such a beautiful piece of clothing!

Sharing another design I was commissioned to create, along with something I learnt along the way.

This piece was inspired by traditional Delft tiles. Each tile was hand painted individually, then brought together to create a cohesive repeat. I found the playful corner framing of each tile really helped establish a natural rhythm across the design, giving it structure without the motifs feeling too rigid.

The biggest thing that stood out for me though wasn’t anything about the artwork, it was the colour. Navy continues to prove itself time and time again.

Through my experience as a Print & Product designer, it’s consistently one of the strongest commercial performers. You can have an incredibly intricate, highly considered print sitting next to something much simpler… and more often than not, it’s the colourway that determines what actually sells.

This design was a clear example of that. It sold out ahead of others in the range that were, objectively, more detailed.

A reminder that the success of a print doesn’t come down to the artwork alone. Sometimes it can be a result of how it’s coloured, how it’s perceived, and ultimately how wearable or usable it feels to the customer. What has your experience been with Navy?

Thrilled to share another exciting project, designing the debut range of printed shades.

Each print was created to ensure there was something for everyone, while still keeping an elevated and high end feel. You can see the designs created include a leafy green, coastal navy, retro orange, organic cream and a multicolour floral - where a lot of thought went into getting the balance of the collection just right!

The product is perfect for anyone spending time outdoors, while not wanting to take up too much space.

I’m so proud of the end product, the vision of my clients and it has been a pleasure watching the brand grow ☀️

I have a large body of design work from the past year that I’m excited to start sharing. Rather than posting it all at once, I’ll be sharing each piece alongside something I learnt in the process, with the hope of offering a bit of insight along the way.

First up, a custom cherry print I hand painted for a client!
One thing this project reinforced for me is that simplicity often has the strongest commercial impact. Prints don’t always need to be complex, especially when selling products.

This piece was incredibly loved and I’m so grateful to have been trusted to bring it to life!

Custom Design Highlight: Delicate Ditsy Blooms 🌸

I hand painted this floral print for a wonderful Australian kids wear brand a short while ago. Bringing their vision to life, each motif was meticulously placed, creating a beautiful dance between blooms. One night, I stayed up late perfecting their arrangement, ensuring every action created a harmonious reaction. The balance of space and flow turned into an art form itself.

Once the print was designed, the rest was out of my hands. The journey of bringing it to life began.. and my client Renee did an incredible job.

Over the last 10 years, social media has changed, and those of us who grew up online, are changing the way we use it too. In this post, I explain my thought process behind starting from scratch on , and finding the perfect balance for me between privacy and professionalism.

While it was daunting to start from scratch on Instagram and create a separate account for my business, it was a strategic move that has benefited me in many ways. I have never been busier, and while I have less followers or "vanity metrics" at the moment

Nearly everything I designed (while on 'Maternity Leave') in 2022! Some prints I can't show yet, though you will see that I didn't stop creating even though I was busy being a new mum.

If anything, my passion for design and creating is stronger now more than ever. I am so grateful I get to do this!
