A little peek inside Blue Skies AheadšŸ’™āœˆļø

One of the pilot lounges we're designing for our airport FBO project has a personality all its own.

The vision? A space that feels comfortable, sophisticated, and connected to the world of aviation without feeling like a typical airport waiting room.

Rich cognac leather, beautiful shades of blue, warm wood tones, layered textures, and artwork that celebrates flight.

I love seeing all the individual design selections come together into one cohesive vision.

We're getting closer to installation, and I cannot WAIT to see these spaces come to life!

Here's a little illustrated concept of the direction we're bringing to Blue Skies Ahead. šŸ’™

Your hangar home floorplan can look beautiful on paper and still drive you crazy once you live in it.

One of my favorite parts of designing floorplans is figuring out how to make everyday life easier.

I recently worked through a challenge on an aviation residence in Pecan Plantation where the garage-to-kitchen circulation wasn't nearly as convenient as I wanted it to be.

The floorplan worked. Technically.

But I kept thinking about those everyday moments. Coming home with groceries. Walking all the way around to reach the kitchen. Doing that over and over again.

So I kept working through it.

The solution? A concealed push-door through the pantry that created a much more convenient route without compromising the surrounding design.

It's a small detail that can make a huge difference.

And that's exactly why I don't believe a floorplan should simply look good. It should be designed around the way you actually live.

This week's blog covers 7 Hangar Home Floorplan Mistakes to Avoid Before You Build, including some decisions that are much easier to address before construction begins.

If you're planning a hangar home, this is one worth reading before your plans become permanent.

What actually makes a hangar home feel luxurious?

It isn't necessarily the stone countertops, expensive appliances, or adding every amenity you can fit into the plan.

Some of the features I consider most luxurious are much less obvious.

It's having somewhere to drop your flight bag when you come home.
It's seeing your airplane perfectly framed from inside the house.
It's opening the hangar door and having friends naturally gather without everyone constantly walking through the kitchen.
It's outdoor living that connects beautifully with the house, hangar, and taxiway.
It's lighting that lets the hangar function completely differently on a Saturday night than it does when you're working on the airplane.
And it's a floorplan designed around the way you actually live and fly.

This week on the Aeroview blog, I'm sharing 7 Features That Make a Hangar Home Feel Truly Luxurious and most of them aren't about choosing more expensive finishes.

Well…after a 9-month ā€œlittle break,ā€ The Aeroview Lifestyle is officially back.

I kept saying I wanted to get back to the podcast.

Then work got busy. Projects grew. Aeroview grew. Life happened.

Nine months later…here we are. šŸ˜‚

The funny thing is, I think I have more to talk about now than I did when I stopped.

This year has given me the opportunity to design an airport, work on aviation residences and hangars, spend more time inside the aviation community, and really understand what I want Aeroview to become.

One thing hasn't changed:

Designing for aviation isn't simply designing around the airplane. I'm designing around the people who own it.

That's a big part of what this first episode back is about.

How I approach aviation properties, why the questions we ask before designing matter so much, what I've learned, and where we're going from here.

So yes. The podcast is alive. šŸ˜‚

Luxury in a hangar home isn’t always what people think it is.

Yes, beautiful finishes and furniture matter. You know I love that part.
But some of the biggest luxuries have nothing to do with how much something costs.

It’s drinking your morning coffee while looking at your airplane.

Walking from your house to your hangar in seconds.

Planning the property so the runway becomes part of the view.

Having a hangar that isn’t just somewhere to park the airplane, but somewhere you actually want to spend time.

That’s what I love about designing aviation residences.

We aren’t designing a regular house and figuring out where aviation fits later.

The way you live and fly should influence the design from the beginning.

Because to me, real luxury is having a home designed around the life you actually want to live.

And if that life happens to include an airplane in the backyard? Even better. šŸ˜‰āœˆļø

If you would’ve told me this time last year that putting myself out there would lead to designing my first airport AND an aviation residence estate…

I probably wouldn’t have believed you🄹

Yet here I am.

Vacuuming the pilot lounge I designed while waiting for massage chairs to be deliveredšŸ˜‚

A year ago, I was focused on getting Aeroview in front of the right people.

I kept talking about hangar homes.
I kept sharing my work.
I went to aviation events.
I met people.
I put myself out there even when I had no idea who was actually paying attention.

Slowly, people started paying attention.

Then came the opportunity to design an FBO.
Then an aviation residence estate.
Then more pilots started reaching out about their hangars and hangar homes.

Sometimes when you’re building something, you’re so focused on where you’re going that you forget to look around and realize you’re already standing in something you once hoped for.

Today that realization happened while holding a vacuum.

There’s still SO much I want to do with Aeroview, but I’m really grateful for this season and every person who has trusted me with their space.

Apparently sometimes success looks like vacuuming a pilot loungešŸ’ƒ
