Honored and excited to share that this jar was juried into Queen City Clay's exhibition, "The Coal Bed" by juror, Mark Hewitt. I have been a long time fan of Mark's work, so this was a very exciting acceptance!

I love the Speedball Gel Printing Plate for use on ceramics. It is perfect for precision underglazed prints and rolling over rounded surfaces.

I’m using the 5 x 5 in this video, and one thing I really like is how easy it is to clean between pots. I just rinse it off or wipe it down with a sponge and keep printing.

You can also layer printing with resists or even use it as a paint and transfer surface. Honestly, there are so many ways to use this thing that I feel like I could make a whole series about this gel plate.

If you’re into surface decoration, this is definitely a tool I’d recommend experimenting with.

Underglaze is Speedball Ceramics Royal Blue that I added a little bit of gum to to make it thicker.

Meet this week’s featured artist Alex Macias! Alex is a brand new artist here at the gallery based in Spring Hill, KS. She specializes in ceramics of all different kinds. Using vinyl glaze resist she is able to achieve intricate designs, along with that has pieces ranging from Greek, Moroccan, and 1970s inspired designs! “I strive to elevate simplistic forms and create a tactile experience, evident in the color of clay I throw with, to the finishes and glaze on each piece.” Stop by the gallery soon to check out her ceramic work!
