Chris Teague's painting for empty bowls are a delightful surprise every year. This time, she paid homage to a few Historic Downtown McKinney businesses including TUPPS Brewery with a bright, stained-glass-style underglaze painting on one of my wheel-thrown bowls.

In addition to contributing her artwork, Chris also volunteers for Empty Bowls McKinney . If you’d like to check out this piece click on this link:

The first image shows the bowl before it was fired—I wanted to include it to highlight just how dramatically underglaze can change through the firing process and with the addition of a clear glaze. The final piece was fired to cone 6 oxidation

Letecia Herrera is one of the warmest people you’ll ever meet. She is known for her Walker series, and gorgeous digital prints. This year, she brought that same voice to one of my bowls, keeping it primarily black and white with a bold pop of color.

This bowl will be part of the Empty Bowls McKinney charity auction link below:

Professor Kare was my figure drawing and painting professor, someone I was lucky to study under after a recommendation from my ceramics teacher in college.

He approached the human form with incredible precision, breaking it down into skeletal and muscular structure, treating drawing like a science. That same discipline and care carries into everything he makes.

Seeing him translate his skill into underglaze on one of my bowls is pretty special.

This piece will be part of the Empty Bowls McKinney charity auction:

This year I have another collaborative piece in the Empty Bowls McKinney auction. This bowl was made by me and beautifully painted by my incredibly talented teacher, Noriko Tanigawa.

Each year, I try to create a form that can serve as a canvas for her brilliance—and every time, she exceeds anything I imagined. She doesn’t just paint on the bowl; she thoughtfully responds to its form, letting the piece guide her design.

It’s always amazing to see my functional work transformed into something truly special. I’m honored to collaborate with her and share this piece for a good cause.

Bowl is thrown with Minnesota Clay USA Mb6

My mom Minda Macias, Minda Macias Artwork is an incredibly talented drawer, and once a year we collaborate on a piece to donate to charity—though I’m still working on convincing her to do it more often 😊

This platter is one of our pieces for Empty Bowls McKinney : I threw the form, and she painted the magnolia in underglaze.

—100% of proceeds go to the charity.
