This is something I’ve always known and have never used in our products — and it’s time to talk about it 💬

Mica powder. You’ve seen it — that beautiful shimmer in soaps, candles, and cosmetics. It looks luxurious. But do you know how it gets to us? 🧐

Children as young as four and five years old are mining mica in India and the Middle East — in dangerous, unregulated conditions — so that it can end up on a store shelf. The U.S. Department of Labor has documented this. The research is there. And once you know, you can never unknow it. ✍🏾

At Seemy Candles we made a decision from day one — we will never use mica powder in any of our products. Not because it isn’t beautiful. But because luxury should never come at the cost of a child’s safety, health, or childhood. That is not a trade we are willing to make. Ever!❌

Finding the very first vessels I ever used to make Seemy Candles — and I don’t know if I want to cry or smile. 🥹

It’s bittersweet seeing where it all started. These little vessels held the very first pours, the first scents, the first version of a dream I was still figuring out. And look at us now. 🕯️✨

Candle maker tip — don’t let cooled wax slow you down 🕯️

We love to multitask while our wax cools — labeling, adding wicks, getting ahead — but by the time you’re done your wax may be too cool to pour 😩😩😩

Don’t panic, skip the double boil and grab your heat gun. Warm the bottom or side of your pouring pitcher for a few seconds until you’re back at your desired pour temp. 🌡️

And ALWAYS the bottom or the side — pointing the heat gun directly on top can cause your fragrance to evaporate. Protect your scent at all costs. 🤍

Candle maker tip you didn’t know you needed — stop throwing away your trimmed wicks. 🕯️

Every wick I cut gets saved. A simple bag of wick tabs from and it becomes a brand new wick for another candle. Zero waste, full intention — and this is exactly what we mean when we say Seemy Candles is eco-friendly. We don’t just say it. We live it, right here in the studio. ♻️✨
