Soap Bar vs. Syndet Bar — What's the Difference? 🧴
Not all shampoo bars are created equal! Here's the breakdown:
Soap-based shampoo bars are made through saponification (like our cold process soaps) — oils + lye = soap. They're wonderfully natural, but true soap is alkaline, which can leave hair feeling coated or cause a "waxy" buildup on hard water, especially with color-treated or fine hair.
Syndet bars (short for "synthetic detergent") use gentle surfactants instead of soap, keeping the pH close to your hair's natural range. That means less buildup, better lather in hard water, and hair that feels smoother right out of the shower.
At Prairie & Flame, our shampoo bars are syndet-based — because your hair deserves the same thoughtful formulation as the rest of your routine. 🌾
