BECOME A SUPER CILANTRO GARDENER WITH SEEDRA INSTRUCTION💚🌿
🤟🏻DAYS TO GERMINATION: 10-21
🤟🏻SOWING: Best when sown directly in your garden. It grows very quickly and has a taproot, so it doesn’t transplant well. Sow seeds 1⁄4” deep about 2-3 weeks after the last frost, and thin to 6-8” when the seedlings
have three pairs of leaves. If you want cilantro in the late spring, you can sow the seed indoors in peat pots and then plant the whole pot in the garden about 2-3 weeks after the last frost. To keep a good supply of
this herb, sow seed every 2-3 weeks.
🤟🏻LIGHT PREFERENCE: Full sun or light shade if in a hot area.
🤟🏻SOIL REQUIREMENTS: Soil rich in organic matter that drains well and has a pH of 6.0-6.7.
🤟🏻HARVEST: You can start harvesting when the plants are 6-8” tall. Use the new, upper leaves in cooking. They should be used fresh, since cilantro loses its flavor when dried or frozen. If you want to harvest coriander seeds, do so on a dry day. When the seedpods begin turning brown about 2-3 weeks after flowering, cut the top of the stems. Place them in a paper bag and let then ripen for a few weeks in a dark,
cool place. Ripe seeds smell spicy.
🤟🏻PLANT SPACING: Plant 2-3 seeds per hole. Space the plants 8-12” apart. Cilantro grows to 18-24” tall and spreads 10-14”.
🤟🏻SOIL AND AIR TEMPERATURE: 70oF for sowing
indoors.
🤟🏻TIPS: Pinch the young plants back about 1” to develop bushier plants. As soon as the main stem starts to develop flower buds, cut off the top part of the stem. Watch the plants closely in hot weather, since they tend to go to seed under these conditions.
The plant loses its flavor when this happens.
Can be grown in a container that is at least 12” deep. Used for centuries in Mexican, Asian, African, Indian, Middle Eastern, and
Spanish cooking. The seeds, which are known as coriander, are important for the flavor of curry.
