In honor of National Ballpoint Pen Day, I went digging through the sketchbook vault. 🖊️

I’ve loved sketching for as long as I can remember..long before I ever sold a painting. While not every painting starts with a sketch, drawing has always been one of my favorite ways to study the natural world and to bring peace to whatever my chaos may be.

A special nod to Sakura Pigma Micron pens, which have been a trusted (water proof) companion through countless sketchbooks over the years.

Meet Rowen.

I imagine Rowen as the kind of heron that has seen every sunrise over the marsh and still isn’t in a hurry. While the world rushes past, he glides quietly above the water, watching, waiting, and knowing exactly when to move.

Great blue herons have always fascinated me. They’re elegant without trying to be and somehow manage to look both powerful and peaceful at the same time.

Rowen is an original painting on 16x20 canvas board and is looking for a forever home. 🩶

From spoonbills and sunsets to blooms and marsh skies, these are a few of my favorite pink-inspired paintings from the studio. Nature wears the color well, and I never seem to tire of painting it.

A little look back at the last three ‘Watercolor & The Word’ classes (aka Summer Crew) 🎨

Every other week, an awesome group of ladies to paint a new watercolor theme inspired by a different scripture.

One of my favorite things has been seeing how each person approaches the same theme differently. Every painting is unique, their artwork has been absolutely beautiful and it’s incredible to see how quickly their skills have heightened in such a short time although most of them I found already knew what they were doing well before I came along. 😎

**The current summer group is full, but I do hope to carry this on into the next season!

A special thank you to Just Love Coffee Roasters in Brandon for so graciously hosting us and providing such a welcoming space for our group. We’re so grateful for your hospitality ☕
