Classic Vanilla Custard Squares 🍮🍰
Ingredients:
For the Base:
Puff Pastry (2 sheets, thawed): The flaky layers.
For the Custard:
Milk (2 cups): The base of the custard.
Sugar (1/2 cup): Sweetens the custard.
Egg Yolks (4): Adds richness and thickness.
Cornstarch (1/4 cup): Thickens the custard.
Vanilla Extract (1 tsp): Enhances flavor.
For the Topping:
Powdered Sugar (for dusting): Adds a sweet finish.
Instructions:
Preheat Oven: Set to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet.
Bake Pastry: Place puff pastry sheets on the baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and puffed. Cool completely.
Make Custard: Heat milk in a saucepan until warm. In a bowl, whisk sugar, egg yolks, and cornstarch. Gradually add warm milk, whisking constantly. Return to the saucepan and cook over medium heat until thickened. Stir in vanilla.
Assemble: Place one pastry sheet on a serving plate, spread custard evenly, and top with the second pastry sheet.
Chill & Serve: Refrigerate for 2 hours, dust with powdered sugar, and cut into squares. Enjoy!
