The Two Main Types of Real Silk
1. Mulberry Silk (Highest Quality & Most Luxurious)
Silkworms are fed exclusively on fresh mulberry leaves.
Produces the finest, longest, and most uniform fibers.
Naturally pure white in color.
Exceptionally smooth, shiny, soft, and lustrous with a beautiful sheen.
Has a very consistent texture and high purity.
Ideal for high-end applications such as luxury bedding (sheets, pillowcases, duvets), scarves, ties, and premium fashion garments.
2. Wild Silk (also known as Tussah, Tasar, Eri, etc.)
Silkworms feed on a variety of leaves, including oak, castor, and other wild plants.
Naturally colored in earthy tones — brown, tan, golden, or beige — due to the tannins present in the leaves they eat.
Fibers are coarser, more textured, and less uniform.
Less shiny and lustrous compared to mulberry silk, but often stronger and more durable.
Has a rustic, natural appearance and feel.
Commonly used for heavier fabrics, upholstery, and more casual or textured silk products.
Quick Comparison:
Mulberry Silk = Premium, white, ultra-soft, highly lustrous, refined luxury.
Wild Silk = Natural brown/golden tones, textured, stronger, more rustic and organic look.
Mulberry silk is universally considered the gold standard of silk due to its superior softness, shine, and smoothness.
