Warp & Weft , 2024

My love for the fiber arts has been growing throughout my life. Weaving fabrics through crochet or knitting has brought me joy, peace, a sense of accomplishment and most importantly a meditative practice that calms my mind.

For me, beadwork is a form of fiber art too. When I set up my loom, I pick out my threads accordingly to weight and color and then weave my beads in to create stories. This piece is my ode to not only the art of weaving but also to the unacknowledged work of women who have championed fabric for centuries only to be relegated to folk art. Feminine ingenuity and art has neither been showcased or embraced as fine art until very recently. As I discover more female artists, it enrages me that so many creatives are lost to history, their work unnamed and forgotten.

This is to doing better now and being better at seeing art that comes from everywhere.
