🌡️ Method: Oven-baked casserole
🔹 Quick Ingredients (Main 4):
Ground beef
Cabbage
Tomato sauce
Rice (or potatoes)
📝 Full Ingredients:
1½ lbs (680 g) ground beef
1 medium head green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)
1 medium onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (with juice)
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt & pepper to taste
1 cup cooked white rice (or use thinly sliced potatoes for a variation)
1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese (optional, for topping)
Olive oil, for sautéing
👨🍳 Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Sauté the cabbage:
In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil. Add chopped cabbage and a pinch of salt. Sauté for 5–7 minutes until slightly wilted. Remove and set aside.
Cook the beef filling:
In the same skillet, cook ground beef with chopped onion until browned. Drain excess fat. Add garlic, tomato paste, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–10 minutes to let flavors combine.
Assemble the casserole:
Layer half of the cabbage on the bottom of the baking dish
Spread all the cooked rice (or potatoes) on top
Spoon half the beef mixture over the rice
Repeat layers: remaining cabbage, then remaining beef sauce
Top with shredded cheese, if using
Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, until bubbly and golden on top.
Rest for 10 minutes before serving for easier slicing and better flavor.
