Here’s a delicious and hearty German Goulash recipe—perfect for a cozy meal! 🇩🇪🍲
Traditional German Goulash Recipe
Ingredients:
✔ 2 lbs (900g) beef chuck, cubed
✔ 2 tbsp oil or butter
✔ 2 onions, finely chopped
✔ 3 cloves garlic, minced
✔ 2 tbsp tomato paste
✔ 1 tbsp sweet paprika
✔ 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
✔ 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
✔ 3 cups beef broth
✔ 1 cup red wine (optional, for depth of flavor)
✔ 2 bay leaves
✔ 2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
✔ ½ tsp black pepper
✔ 2 carrots, sliced (optional)
✔ 2 potatoes, cubed (optional, for a heartier dish)
Instructions:
1️⃣ Sear the Beef: Heat oil in a large pot and brown the beef in batches. Remove and set aside.
2️⃣ Sauté the Onions & Garlic: In the same pot, cook onions until soft, then add garlic and tomato paste.
3️⃣ Add Spices & Liquids: Stir in paprika, caraway seeds, salt, and pepper. Pour in red wine (if using) and let it reduce. Add beef broth and bay leaves.
4️⃣ Simmer: Return the beef to the pot, cover, and simmer on low for 1.5 to 2 hours until the meat is tender. (Add carrots and potatoes in the last 30 minutes if using.)
5️⃣ Serve & Enjoy! Best with spaetzle, mashed potatoes, or crusty bread.
