Nancy Michaels Interiors As a home organizer and interior design consultant, my philosophy is that you can live in a beautifu like yesterday or last year. Am I right? Agreed. and more fun!

Hey there, I’m Nancy — Your New BSF (Best Style Friend — in case you forgot). You want and need help to navigate the downsizing process . . . You’ve been thinking about it forever and you know this mess won’t clean itself up. Here’s what I can tell you. Hope is not a strategy. Really, it’s not. I’ll work with you to simplify, sketch out and style your home . . . one step at a time – with less stre

ss, more confidence, no costly mishaps . . . Fifteen years ago, I was flooded with negative emotions about having to downsize my home due to a marital separation that led to a divorce as they often do (not good) and a life-threatening illness (that was way worse — no kidding). You might relate. It wasn’t until I had moved into a smaller home with my three young children that I experienced a major “ah-ha” moment. I found the shedding of unnecessary “things” in my home and life SO freeing! I couldn’t have believed that downsizing my life and home could bring in so much style, confidence, and good times. Now, I have a passion to guide others through making their downsized home, well, downright stylish! With every property I’ve bought, renovated, rented, resided in, and resold, I’ve used my specialized system to yield high style in typically, smaller spaces. You too can live your best new life in your downsized space! I’ve spent the last 15+ years transforming houses from unappealing and unappreciated properties to stylish homes that sell for thousands of dollars over the asking price. Now I want to bring this system to your home and help create the look and feel that YOU want to see in your digs. Join me for your incredible journey! It’s your move! It’s your turn! It’s your time! Together, we can create an ideal living space you love and provide an up-leveled sense of YOU! There are three main ways that I can help you create the beautiful space you’ve always wanted and deserve. We can work together via one-to-one consulting, online courses, or destination retreats. You can learn about each of these through my services page at www.nancymichaelsinteriors.com/downsizing-services.

First solo day in Seville without my travel partner Chloe. Hopped on the on and off bus, having lunch now, going to the Alcazar for a tour and Flamenco show tonight! Love Seville.

Last Monday you read about my "moving hell" and trying to set up a functional living room space in my Boston condo!

Take a look at the different ways that I tried to set up this space before a final layout was chosen!

I took a stroll down Charles Street in Boston today to look for some items for my home!

I can't tell you enough how much I love browsing and walking through these shops now that I am moved into my Boston Condo!

Moving is hell. Moving is hell. Did I mention that moving is hell?

Well, here I am at long last -- Back on Beacon. I’m not fully settled, but you’ll be getting updates, I promise. The one room that is nearly pulled together is my main living room and dining area. Having said that you have to know I’ve changed the layout three times and finally feel like I’ve found the best furniture positions for the space. At long last!

The lesson here is that if at first it doesn’t work, feel right or flow . . . you can always switch it up! Take a look at my video with the final layout (remember I haven’t been here for even a week) and let me know what you think!

I recently bought a major fixer upper on Boston’s Beacon Hill. Come to find out it’s got some real history. One that really captured my attention was that Louisa May Alcott, the author of Little Women -- who lived in Concord, MA -- where I called home for more than 30 years, spent time at the Bellevue Hotel (what my building used to be way back when) to finish . . . Little Women. Who knew? I thought all along the book was conceived, written and completed while she lived in Concord!

The Bellevue Hotel has a lot of history. Why wouldn’t it? It was built in 1899 and is steeped with charm, quirks and more charm. I was able to find on eBay brochure about the hotel and I found a menu for Chuck’s restaurant on Etsy -- that I framed and will most likely be in my kitchen or hung on the way into the kitchen.

It has some challenges. I moved in during a heat wave that continues to go on . . . and on . . . and there’s zero central air conditioning. I’m sweating as I write this! Washers and dryers are down the hall, not in units. Two things that I compromised on, but I’ve got an elevator and concierge and for the amount of continued small “moves” I’m making and packages that keep arriving -- I’m embracing all of it!

Window AC’s are coming this week! Pray for me in the meantime!

Happy Homeownership Month!!!

I’m working with three clients now who need some downsizing and zhuzhing and I’m so happy to be helping them do both.

Truthfully, they aren’t as aware of the importance of the downsizing piece, but let me tell you, it’s tough to zhuzh when there’s simply too much stuff, clutter, things, pieces, etc. in a space.

Here are a few tips to help streamline what you have and begin this process on your own.

When in doubt -- toss it out, give it to charity . . . just let it go!

No one needs multiples of things -- especially utensils, serving platters, shoes (I’m sorry to be hurting some of you), tops, sweaters . . . I could go on.

There are plenty who need what no longer serves you. Habitat for Humanity is a great resource, your local thrift store and of course you can sell things on Facebook Marketplace, eBay , Poshmark, and numerous other online resources. Just understand that this will take some time and your availability to be there when shoppers want to look at something (FBM) or needs to be shipped out. I say -- give it away unless you feel it’s a great item that can be sold quickly.

There will always be a project for you to work on when you own a home. That’s the up and downside of home ownership. Thinking of doing a major clean up before you tackle those fun decorating projects is a great place to start.

It is so rare that you find the perfect items for your home right from the start, however, there may be some design challenges around the decor and style of your home...including how to match or not match your decor!

I love a unique find. I also love the work that only an artist can provide with their God-given talent and appreciation for what’s beautiful. I do believe a piece of original artwork should be in each and every room in your home.

We often can purchase something when we go on an exotic vacation or visit another country that holds a memory and special meaning to us. When you’re lucky enough to live in an area with a dominant culture, it’s even better to work with local craftspeople to create unique pieces for your home.

My clients in Puerto Rico support local painters, furniture makers, and shop owners who make custom pieces or seek them out on their behalf. It’s incredible that so many stories will be told based on the origin of these pieces that are useful and beautiful and reflect the land and people of Puerto Rico.

Where can you go to support local artisans and give your home a uniquely local flair and flavor?
