We have had so many new followers the last few weeks. Thank you so much for following and supporting our small business. Let me introduce myself! Hello! I am Ana. I am a Jesus follower, a stay at home mom who homeschools, and the creator of Bloomed BouqCakes. My mom, Glenda, steps in to help when I am overwhelmed with orders and have overbooked myself with my 5 year olds social life.
I was a hairstylist for almost 20 years before my daughter joined us and we decided her childhood and education would be my first priority. So we moved from Seattle to this small town in the middle of the country and have loved raising her here and meeting every single one of you. I am a hobby baker operating out of a cottage kitchen. Your order likely buys her school curriculum, her field trips or funds her berry addiction. Everything is made to order and made from scratch with imported vanilla, my daughter's fresh chicken eggs she sells me, and the freshest, quality ingredients. Flour and butter quality DO make a difference.
A few years ago, soon after we settled here, I was needing a way to earn a little bit of money from home but I knew I wasn't ready for the hairstylist thing again. I came across an Instagram post one day with some beautiful floral cupcakes decorated by a gal in England. I was blown away. A few days later I told myself, I can do that. "It's different. No one around here does THAT kind of work." I ordered a few books from Amazon. I found some YouTube tutorials, I had some supplies from a cake decorating workshop my mom and I had taken through Michael's a few years back. Most of the recipes are the ones my mom has perfected over the years and has passed along to me. So then, Bloomed BouqCakes was born.
A few questions I have been asked that I will answer:
"How long does each cupcake/ bouquet take to decorate?"
- Anywhere from a minute to 15 minutes for each cupcake, depending on the design, amount of detail and number of colors. The time it takes picking up and putting down different piping bags really adds up. A bouquet takes anywhere from 2-6 hours from assembly to finish. Mixing colors is no joke. There is a process, to get our buttercream to look so smooth with the smooth edges on the petals.
"When do you work?"
- We have a very flexible homeschool schedule but you'll find me baking at night, mixing buttercream colors early when the natural light is the brightest and decorating at 4 am when my little one is snoozing. Weekends are different because daddy can have daddy daughter days.
"Why can't I pick up on Sundays?"
-I do offer early pick ups (before 9 am) on Sundays. But the rest of the day is reserved for our family in Christ and our little family.
"Do you teach?"
- I have thought about having classes. I have gone back and forth with it. I think now that my little is getting more independent, it will be feasible. Maybe even an online academy of some sort.
"What about Farmer's Markets or events like that?"
-We have done a few in the past. It just gets so hot here. Our floral cupcakes are decorated with buttercream and buttercream melts! We are open to events inside with air conditioning.
"What is your favorite part of making these?"
- The blessing. It's amazing to know someone else will be blessed by my work. It's such a unique gift and I really do wish I could afford to do it for free. "Who says that?" You might ask. Someone who loves what they do and loves to see people's faces light up. I have a calling toward the elderly so if you have an elderly patient who never gets visitors or seems to be forgotten, please reach out. My daughter and I would love to stop in with a sweet treat.
If you have any questions, ask away! I'll try my best to answer in the comment thread!
