Who decided October should be Upholstery Awareness Month? Well… apparently, a group of upholsterers did.
The story goes back to 2018, when upholsterer Bruno Paulin-Lopez sent a message to some fellow upholsterers about creating a month to celebrate their craft. The idea caught on, spread through social media, and Upholstery Awareness Month was born.
So what does it mean?
It’s a chance to pull back the curtain and, fittingly, look beneath the covers to recognize the skill, time, creativity, and craftsmanship that goes into professional upholstery. So much of the work is hidden inside a piece: the springs, padding, stitching, planning, and countless techniques that most of us never see.
This October, we’re celebrating the people who keep this craft alive, share their knowledge, and remind us that there’s a whole lot more to upholstery than what meets the eye.
