What an auspicious place to celebrate a union! Gathering for friends’ wedding beneath the Palace of Fine Arts — arguably the most iconic building in the city — felt like peak San Francisco magic.

Designed by legendary architect Bernard Maybeck for the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition, the Palace was conceived as a quiet sanctuary amid the spectacle of the fairgrounds: a place where visitors could exhale before stepping into galleries of paintings and sculpture beyond the rotunda.

Maybeck imagined it as a romantic ruin inspired by ancient Rome, with the lagoon echoing classical European landscapes and the rotunda panels depicting “The Struggle for the Beautiful,” a tribute to Greek ideals and the enduring pursuit of art, contemplation, wonderment, and human expression.

A place built to honor beauty, reflection, and the human spirit feels like exactly the right setting to witness love and commitment. Some places have history and emotion built into their very foundation. 💫

This custom MCM sofa is one of my favorite projects of late. Having the chance to freestyle create while revitalizing a blank canvas was so much fun, and even though I had no specific plan the design intuitively came together resulting in a functional one of a kind statement.

In honor of National Feng Shui Day (Wednesday), I wanted to share some details of a project I’ve been working on for the last couple years which I feel really captures ideal Feng Shui: from the interior to the site itself with sweeping views of Mt. Diablo. It’s inspiring yet calm & inviting.

Feng Shui deals with positioning buildings in landscapes and objects within them in an effort to align natural forces in order to bring health and wellbeing. It’s the practice of creating harmony between people and their environments by creating a balanced flow of energy.

When communities, homes and workplaces are set up using feng shui techniques, proper flow and balance of energy will ideally follow. Feng translates to “wind,” while shui means “water”—two things traditionally correlated to overall wellness, and this home embodies it all.

After more than six years of looking at houses and cabins, it’s safe to say this one will be living rent-free in my mind for years to come—and I know I’m in good company. It feels like the purest expression of California living: natural materials, light and landscape in quiet conversation. Truly perfect feng shui.

Places like this feel almost sacred—not because they’re grand, but because they’re so rare. When one hits the market it stirs a frenzy because it strikes a deep chord, recalling a time when houses were built by hand, land felt within reach, and the average person could shape a life around how they actually wanted to live.

I love that it belonged to one couple who stumbled upon it while it was being built in the 70’s and lived there into their eighties: it’s a tender time capsule. And standing in it you can’t help but feel a strong hope that a life like that might still be within reach (just with a different price tag; ) Kudos to whomever ends up calling this one home. 💫
