The right plate can change the entire table. ✨
When designing a tablescape, I’m not just choosing a plate because it’s pretty. I’m looking at how it works with the linen, florals, flatware, glassware and the overall feeling we’re trying to create.
A few things I look for:
• Color — Does it complement the palette without disappearing into it?
• Pattern — If the linen or florals are already making a statement, the plate may need to be quieter.
• Scale — A detailed salad plate layered over a simple dinner plate can add interest without overwhelming the table.
• Style — Vintage, garden-inspired, modern or classic—the plate should feel like it belongs in the story.
• Balance — Not every element needs to compete for attention.
For our upcoming styled shoot, I wanted the place settings to feel collected, romantic and a little unexpected—like pieces you might find tucked away in an English country house, but styled with a fresh California feel.
Sometimes the most beautiful tables aren’t perfectly matched.
They’re thoughtfully layered. 🤍
