This Morton Meadows door saw a lot of weather and sunlight over the years. Pretty severe checking, too. Originally I planned on repairing it and getting it to paint grade, but a stain grade finish became more realistic as I continued to work on it. Restored fir or pine doesn't usually stain well for me, but this was an exception, and the everyone loved it. I finished it with Osmo's UV formula, shined the brass, and installed new spring bronze after resetting all of the mortises and holes (had a big sag). It's getting a new storm door too so it will hang a long life. I'm really happy with how this turned out.

I had the privilege to restore these 12 leaded push outs a while back on a lovely Dundee home. There was a long list of things to improve.. One of the sash had to be remade (thanks ) and I replaced a few of the stiles. Lots of resoldering and cementing for the lead cames. Then each window had at least five individual pieces of hardware not including the weatherstripping. I'm still really happy I got to work on this project. Whenever I drive past it I get to see how shiny the glass looks now.

Revitalized these double hung windows in a cute little Morton Meadows home. Wish I took videos of the work on the mullion cap and jamb.

Restoration is worth the work! You can see the results from my project in Dundee. Did several Dutchmen repairs on rotted wood using recycled lumber and had very minimal waste. Still searching for my master project but I am really really proud with how this turned out. —— Really grateful that I got to work on this really cool family’s home. Even cooler was realizing we had mutual friends from across the state and that I knew the previous two families that lived in their home. I love being from here. 💚🪟🚪🏡

The drill is effective and I prefer to use it over a power drill when possible. The Yankee is ratcheting, too. Both deserve a spot on your belt. You can probably get your hands on a push drill or a Yankee screwdriver secondhand, in your grandpa’s tool chest, or on Garrett Wade’s website. 💚🪟🚪🏡
