The Savory Tart I like to put the "art" in tart. This page is always under development. I tested and re-tested all of the recipes until I was sure that I had my ideal version.

I love to cook and sometimes post my recipes here; I also post other people's recipes when I think they look good. The cover photo shows a small portion of the recipes I 'perfected' during the COVID pandemic. Basically, I spent 2 years working up a 4,000 page document of recipes for my favorite dishes from around the world. Any of my recipes posted here will be from that gigantic document. ***But

please know that posting recipes and my website are all under very, very slow development...they're just a hobby!***

If you've been to a hibachi restaurant in the US you might have seen a clear soup on the menu. “Japanese Onion Soup”—also known “Miyabi Soup” or “Hibachi Soup”—is made by simmering beef broth or chicken broth and veggies such as carrots, celery, fresh ginger, and garlic. This soup commonly includes sliced mushrooms, scallions, sometimes tofu, and sesame oil. However, I’ve personally never heard of this soup in Japan as we don’t use beef broth at all! I believe this could just be another American mashup invention, mixing up all Asian flavors and calling it Japanese.

Unlike the clear soup served at the hibachi steakhouse, the characteristic of authentic Japanese clear soup is the use of really good dashi (Japanese soup stock) and seasonal ingredients. The dashi is lightly seasoned with salt and soy sauce. We typically use light-colored soy sauce so that the soup stays unclouded. The final taste is delicate, complex yet pure.
