Pride month is over, but the fight for our civil liberties continues. Recently I visited the headquarters in New York City, where five of my works are part of their art collection 🌈

Included are artworks from the Beating Hearts series, developed during my artist residency at the World Trade Center 🏙️ Beating Hearts q***r the Sacred Heart of Jesus to spread the message that love is love everywhere ❤️

Check out the artwork on the ACLU website (link in bio): https://www.aclu.org/acluartnyoffice/vicente-ortiz-cortez

👋🏽 I’m excited to share work from a new series

🦖 “Rex” uses my own Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) AI models to explore the role of the artist in the age of AI image generation, building on my prior works exploring the relationships between art and life

🧠 Socially conscious, this work responds to the surreality of reality. Depicting myself riding a 🦖, it defies reality as a means of non-conformity, building upon my artist mythology as an agent of cultural change. As a contribution to the global imagination infrastructure, it invites you to consider the roles art and technology play in inspiring a brighter future

⏳ The work is now available on my website as timed print and digital editions

🖼️ The first order was received this morning 🎉 starting a 72-hour countdown to close the print edition on 6/30 at 9:40am ET – order your print before time runs out!

Grateful to have my work exhibited across 3 cities in the US and Canada today. All artworks employ "arroz con popote," the art medium I invented as a way to address LGBTQ+ issues through my own cultural perspective. The phrase is a Mexican euphemism for homosexuality. The work takes ownership of the phrase and serves as a platform for discussions on q***r and social themes.

NEW GROUP EXHIBITION 🌈
“Amor” (2021) is part of WayGay on Display: Staff Picks and New Acquisitions from the Permanent Art Collection, a group exhibition on view at the William Way LGBT Community Center (waygayphilly) in through April 25th.

About the artwork:
“Amor” is a photograph inspired by Robert Indiana’s 1966 “Love.” It depicts the Spanish word for love, amor, through a colorful arrangement of rice and red straws—a playful nod to “arroz con popote,” a Mexican euphemism for male homosexuality. This limited edition artwork is also in the collection of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in New York City and has been instrumental in sparking essential conversations on LGBT+ issues, fostering positive change through meaningful dialogue.

Exhibition Dates: February 28 - April 25, 2024
William Way Address: 1315 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107
Hours: Monday through Thursday, 10am to 10pm

🌷 Whenever I think of my grandpa, I remember the crocus flowers on the path to his house. In my mind the two go together. 🤠 🌸 He was a man of a different era – the town remembers his tough side. but I only knew the gentle one. 🫶🏽 🌵
