Just finished this order this morning for the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce, and these handcrafted coal art items are headed to the famous Coal House in Williamson, West Virginia.

If you’ve never seen it, the Coal House is a unique building in downtown Williamson that was actually constructed using coal. It’s one of the area’s most recognizable landmarks and a must-see attraction.

There’s a big race taking place in Williamson tomorrow, and we’re hoping some of the participants and visitors will stop by the Coal House and take home a piece of local Appalachian craftsmanship.

This shipment includes four-wheeler magnets, Kentucky and West Virginia state outline magnets, praying hands, steam engine trains with tender cars, coal hods, replicas of the Coal House, and several of our popular coal figurines.

If you’re going to be in the Williamson area this weekend, stop by the Coal House and pick up a piece of local art created right here in the mountains.

I just finished the last of 34 K**b Creek Abraham Lincoln Boyhood Cabin coal figurines. K**b Creek is where Abraham Lincoln said some of his earliest childhood memories were made. The original cabin was torn down in 1870, but it was later reconstructed using logs from the cabin of a friend of Lincoln’s family. Interestingly, that same friend is credited with saving young Abraham Lincoln from drowning.

These 34 figurines are headed to the Abraham Lincoln Museum in Hodgenville. If you’re ever in the area, be sure to visit both the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park and the Abraham Lincoln Museum in downtown Hodgenville. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about Abraham Lincoln’s Kentucky roots and the history of Hodgenville and LaRue County.

Kentucky Coal Crafters would like to welcome the Lincoln Museum as our newest customer. They have placed their first order, and we are proud to partner with them.

The museum is located just three miles north of the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park and about seven miles west of K**b Creek, making it a great stop for anyone exploring the history of Abraham Lincoln.

We truly appreciate their interest in carrying our coal figurines, and we wish them much success with these products.

If you are traveling through Kentucky, take time to visit the museum and the nearby national park. It is well worth the trip.

I just finished the third Heritage Miner that will be heading to Windber Pennsylvania for Windber Coal Miners Day, sponsored by the Eureka Coal Heritage Foundation. I appreciate their order and the opportunity to be a part of honoring our mining heritage.

I am still working on several more pieces and getting everything ready so it can ship out in the very near future. More updates to come as these items are completed.

just finished making four glass pendant necklaces filled with real coal for the upcoming Windber Coal Miners Days in Windber, Pennsylvania.

If you are going to be in the area and plan to attend the festival, keep an eye out for these unique coal pieces. Each one carries a little bit of coal country heritage with it.

I am working on another part of the order for the Windber Coal Miners Day Festival coming up in June. The item on the table right now is a Christmas box of coal.

This is real Pike County Kentucky coal, mined right here at home. I take it, break it up, and package it into these boxes, each one finished with a tag that reads, Santa checked his list, he checked it twice, but bless your soul, all you got is this box of coal.

It is never too early to think about Christmas, and these will be ready well ahead of the season. Once this order is complete, these boxes will be heading to Pennsylvania.

Just a little bit of holiday cheer here at the end of March.

It’s a busy day in the shop today as I’ve started working on an order for the Eureka Coal Heritage Foundation’s upcoming event, the Windber Miners Day Festival.

One of the more tedious tasks today has been filling these small glass bottles with coal dust. It takes some time, but it’s meaningful work. For those of us who grew up around coal and spent time near the mines, it’s easy to take it for granted. But for folks who have never been around coal or experienced that part of our heritage, having a small piece of it means something. That’s exactly what these are for, and they’ll be available during the festival.

I’ve also started on some of the heritage miners pieces and have three completed so far, just needing to finish them up. I’ll be posting more items as I continue working through everything.
