We know this isn’t a t-shirt or candle—but the developer behind PGH Shop (Dev4PGH) just launched a free, open-source image editor called imgStyler, and we thought yinz might like it!

imgStyler is built for quick, hassle-free photo editing—no login, no uploading, and no clutter. Just open it, make your edits in a few clicks, and you’re good to go! It's open-source, too!

We heard some of yinz thought $20 for a candle was a bit much—and hey, maybe we were being the jagoffs here. 🙃 So we’re trying something out: we’re dropping the price of our candles to $14.98!

As promised, we’re sharing the updated code for our map-styling project! 🎉

When we first introduced our custom tool for creating stylized Pittsburgh maps, we mentioned that we hoped to make the source code available. Now, we’ve done just that!

This project started as a way to generate a single print, but we’ve since expanded it to be more general-purpose. In doing so, we’ve tried to make it easier than ever to customize maps in real time.

We’re incredibly grateful to the open-source tools that made this possible, including MapLibre GL JS, OpenFreeMap, and Photon. Without them, this project wouldn’t exist.

Fun fact: To create our Pittsburgh Street Map Art design (https://pghshop.com/product/pittsburgh-street-map-art-iconic-design-for-steel-city-fans-matte-canvas-stretched-1-25/), we developed our own web app! 🎉

Instead of using existing software that didn’t quite give us the look we wanted, we built a simple tool designed specifically to create this stylized map of Pittsburgh—and since we figured others might enjoy it too, we decided to share it!

And here’s the cool part: you can use it to create your very own custom Pittsburgh map, styled just how you like it! 🌟 And if you want to explore beyond the Steel City, the app lets you design maps of other cities and places around the world too. 🌍

For the tech enthusiasts out there:
- The app is powered by MapLibre GL JS (https://maplibre.org/maplibre-gl-js/docs/), an open-source library for map rendering.
- It uses OpenFreeMap (https://openfreemap.org/), a freely available public map API.
- And it integrates Photon (https://photon.komoot.io/), an open-source geocoding tool built on OpenStreetMap data.

We’re incredibly grateful to these amazing open-source and freely available resources that made this app possible. 🙌 Without them, bringing this tool to life and sharing it with the community wouldn’t have been possible.

This app started as a side project to solve a specific need for our Pittsburgh design, but we thought it’d be fun to share it with Pittsburgh and beyond. It’s still a work in progress (after all, we initially only intended to create a single Pittsburgh map!), and we hope to make improvements to its functionality and interface over time.

We also hope to share the source code for this project in the near future for anyone interested in taking a deeper dive into how it works.
