Mother’s Day should be renamed Unconditional Love Day.

I was kindergarten teacher at for many years before becoming a flower farmer. I had the extreme pleasure of visiting fairyland daily with children as my guide and in return, stewarding their budding relationship with themselves and the Earth. Supporting their flourishing with unconditional love and safety.

But many people don’t have the privilege of such a childhood and the consequences of that hurt follows them through their whole lives.

I firmly believe that if we could value and model unconditional love that above almost anything else our world would be free of so many of its ills. (💙This starts with unconditional love for yourself, BTW.)

So as you’re celebrating mothers, I hope you’re also celebrating all caregivers and all expressions of unconditional love. Because really that’s what the world needs the most.

And if you are looking for Mother’s Day flowers from me, you can find the link in the bio. I’m offering deliveries in Port Townsend and a special pick up in Phinney Ridge on Saturday before Mother’s Day.

🤔 AI vs. growers/ makers/ craftspeople/ artists

The advent of the electricity, the telephone, and even the Internet, people were really frightened about the change that it was going make to their lives.

While I’m personally not interested in using AI - I am trying to look at this as less terrifying and more intriguing. What type of future are we envisioning?

My hope is that we can use this technology for positive things (so far doubtful about this, but a girl can dream. ☺️) But I want to know what do you think about how AI is going to interact with people who make things by hand? Will it help put more value into those handmade or homegrown items? Or will it make it even harder to sustain a living with real world products?

⬇️ I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! Or send me a DM if you want to talk in detail. I find the stuff so interesting.

(This beautiful meconopsis poppy is 100% real and grown by my old employers and neighbors over at . Go check them out. They’re going have an open house on Saturday.)

I am not a niche. As a business nor a human.

Typical business advice tells you to stick to one thing that you offer and just talk about that consistently. But by doing that people associate you with that one thing, and therefore you will be successful.

The problem with that is just that nobody is one thing. The farm is definitely not one thing. And while I love wearing flowers and talking about flowers, honestly there’s a lot of other stuff going on.

I could talk your head off about how we noticed the eagles have not quite hatched their eggs yet, as they are not yet attacking the ducks to feed their babies. But that the ravens are hatched because they have been extra intense about grabbing unattended duck eggs.

How I ran into a possum at night ambling out of a blackberry bramble and it nearly scared me half to death.

How I’m constantly working on interior design/ DIY projects in my funky little house - because it’s never quuuuite right.

How I’m doing yoga more and more to ground into my body and support my almost 40 year old farmer bod. 😆

Anyways, this is just your little reminder that this business is ME and I am more than just a flower grower and designer. My little farm ecosystem and all of its creative endeavors is multidimensional and always expanding.

Does the niche thing bug you too? Do you like hearing about more than just flowers? I wanna know.

Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s chic and timeless style is having a posthumous comeback and is there any doubt why?

So when first came to me with a simple request of single variety of white cosmos for her bridal bouquet, it was obvious why.

Both of these women understand - when you happen to be gorgeous and madly in love - there is no need to complicate things. Simple = timeless.

Even in times of war and peril, in times of fascism and natural disaster - there’s always still love. There are still people getting married. There are still people falling in love. And there are still people showing the depths to which they love humanity through their fearless action.

Love in action looks like a lot of different things big and small.

Today my love in action will look like calling my congressional representatives and letting them know I will not stand for senseless violence. And it will also look like cleaning out my parents house because my dad has dementia and they need this type of support right now.

What does your love in action look like today?

Winter color of the week: 💚 green! (This is an easy one in the evergreen Pacific Northwest.)

St. Brigid’s Day also called Imbolc is right around the corner on February 1st. It marks the halfway mark between winter solstice and spring equinox. I usually make a cross of St. Brigid with some green rushes I find by the pond. St. Brigid Day is a day to visit and drink from springs for blessings of healing and fertility for the coming year. (Put yur finger in the spring! Head over to .morris for an excellent & naughty song on the topic.) Springs and wells are thin places this time of year.

It’s also a great day for a fire. I like to burn my cross from the previous year in the fire. Then I’ll put up my new cross up above my door for good luck and protection.

This tradition keeps me connected to my Irish ancestors and the seasonal nature of the turning of the year.

Do you have any Imbolc traditions? I’d love to hear about your own rituals or from other cultures. 🍀

The world is burning. You want me to make candles?

I’m not going to lie. Trying to figure out how to stay sane enough to do the things I can do to support the world that I hope to see - feels very hard right now.

One lesson I learn over and over again is:

Inner landscapes = outer landscapes.

When your inner landscape is secure and flourishing, you can then go out to the world and create the world you wanna see. How am I doing this? This winter it looks like yoga, journaling, making things with my hands, meditating, and waking on the beach.

Making beeswax candles and burning them every day is another part of my peaceful inner landscape. If you would like to join me in this practice, consider coming to my last candlemaking workshop of the year, which is at .house in Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle on Sunday, February 15 from 2-4pm. You can find the link to sign up in my bio.

This meditative practice is quiet and peaceful. The wax pot is sweetly scented. The togetherness feels so good. You will be making a traditional taper as well as some fun twisted designs. You’ll go home with two candles and an extensive booklet of directions on how to make them at home.

If you’ve already taken a candle dipping class with me this winter, I’d love to hear about it in the comments! Tell me, what did you think?

⛵️Do you ever dream about sailing off into the sunset with your honey? I certainly do!

Sailboats have such a quality of simplicity, freedom and romance. Port Townsend has such a sailing and boat culture here - you can’t sit at the bar vey long before someone offers you a free boat. (Don’t take it. Trust me. 🤣)

If you are looking for an intimate and unique spot to hold a wedding ceremony, may I suggest a boat? Or a dock?

Floaty, frothy summer flowers from our farm makes a perfect accompaniment to a nautical setting.

Do you think sailboats are as romantic as I do? Have you had a sailboat romance? Do tell. ⛵️💙
