RESTORE art collection now on my new website! Sitting at my childhood dining table about an hour south of Amsterdam is where my love for creating art began. With a stack of white paper and a simple pencil, I tried to capture the interesting faces in her mom’s magazines or made line drawings of animals and plants. Even though I always loved creating and exploring different media, I never had a chan

ce to go to art school. Since I believe it’s never too late to pursue our dreams, I made the bold move to enroll in the Milan Art Institute Mastery Program. Working with professional grade oil paint and mixed media on canvas in a contemporary style, I use layering techniques to create depth and spontaneous brushstrokes to convey movement. My art is filled with compassion and hope, inspiring viewers to contemplate how they feel, how they can lift up others and make the world a better place for all. Being part of an international family, I'm dedicated to honoring diversity in my work. While I was born and raised in the Netherlands, I have lived in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in the United States for many years. A certified Oregon Naturalist, I have a big heart for wildlife and use my art to advocate for nature conservation, simultaneously highlighting that we need nature for our own physical and mental wellness. While our world can be so challenging and complicated, my art celebrates the simple joys.

You know how an encounter with wildlife can trigger a happy memory or bring a smile to your face? I hope these new paintings will do this for you and bring you right back to that moment.

These original pieces are painted with professional quality oil paint and mixed media on wood panel that can be displayed on a shelf or on the wall. They’re available at Amity in Portland Oregon.

Sharing a closer look at “A Worthwhile Pause,” a hummingbird painting from my recent Urban Wildlife art collection. This original painting was inspired by the idea that while it’s good to be productive, life can come at us fast and it’s important to take a break when you need it. Even the fast flying hummingbird does! Do you agree?

Apologies for the bad video quality but wanted to let you in on some of the bird drama in my neighborhood. You can hear the hawk if you have the sound on. I absolutely love watching the red tailed hawks. Have you watched hawks around where you live?

So happy that this little hedgehog found a home with the most wonderful collector. I spotted a real life hedgehog on a family visit in the Netherlands a few years ago and I’ll never forget it. 🦔

I recently returned from the Canadian Rockies completely in awe of our beautiful little planet.

Towering mountain ranges, turquoise lakes, bears, bighorn sheep, mountain goats… and very possibly even a wolf! Every day felt like a reminder of just how incredible nature can be.

We hiked and biked many miles, and even though I came home physically tired, I also came back feeling deeply restored, inspired, and energized.

Trips like this always find their way into my artwork. I can already feel new ideas beginning to take shape for future paintings.

My hope is always that my art helps people pause and reconnect with the beauty and wonder of the natural world around us.

About five years ago, I nervously asked a new little gallery shop in downtown Portland if they’d consider carrying my hummingbird art prints. To my excitement, they said yes!

Since then, Amity Artisan Goods has grown into a beautiful community supporting 55 local artists, and I’m so grateful to still be part of it.

I’m excited to share that will be hosting a special “Meet the Artist” event featuring my art on Friday, May 29th from 5–8pm in downtown Portland.

I’ll have new original paintings and nature-inspired gifts to share and would really love to say hello in person if you’re local.

Be sure to save the date! See you soon!
