Welp, cat’s out of the bag! Official announcement is here!!

What began as a shared vision for a different kind of design destination in Raleigh has found its home at 530 Hillsborough Street.

Together, evan reid and 〰️ Yasu Home 〰️ have transformed the historic downtown space into a 4,200-square-foot retail gallery and design studio. At its heart is the new Evan Reid store—an open-to-the-public destination to shop one-of-a-kind vintage furniture, custom upholstery, art, lighting and objects—alongside Yasu Home’s interior design studio, now in permanent residence.

And somewhere along the way, the space revealed a history we never could have planned.

More than sixty years ago, 530 Hillsborough Street was home to National Art Interiors, the furniture and interiors business run by Kate’s family. What began simply as the search for the right space became an unexpected connection between Raleigh’s design past and its future.

For Evan Reid, the gallery is a new retail home for a collection built over years of sourcing, restoring and collecting—and an expansion into something new. Alongside one-of-a-kind vintage, the store introduces custom upholstery by Kim Salmela, bringing made-to-order pieces into the Evan Reid collection for the first time, along with a growing assortment of art, lighting and objects. It’s a place to walk in, browse, shop and experience the collection in person.
For Yasu Home, it is a permanent studio and a place for its interior design practice to live within the everyday energy of the gallery.

Two businesses, one shared space, and a new place to shop, discover and experience design in Raleigh.

It seems like as good a time as any to reintroduce myself, before Yasu Home branches out in a direction I’m very excited about.

I spent nearly 20 years working in fashion before pivoting into interiors, and I think a lot of that background still shows up in my work. I care deeply about texture, proportion, tension, and the way a space feels layered over time instead of perfectly finished all at once.

I’m especially drawn to vintage pieces, natural materials, sculptural lighting, worn textiles, and homes that feel personal rather than overly prescribed. I like rooms with a little contradiction in them. Something refined next to something rough, tailored next to handmade, old next to new.

I founded Yasu Home to create spaces that feel collected, lived in, and deeply reflective of the people inside them.

There are some exciting things coming soon that feel very aligned with where my work (and honestly my life) has been heading over the last few years. Cheers to new adventures! I do hope you’ll stick around. 🩷
