My first ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read in a while!

I flew through Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage in two nights and haven’t stopped thinking about it since. It’s sparked conversations with my husband, friends, and coworkers.

It seems to be topping every bestseller list and “must-read” roundup lately (with a Netflix adaptation already in the works with ). Even the questions swirling around the memoir’s accuracy of storytelling (Google the article) have only added to the conversation, but isn’t that what happens with the books everyone is talking about?

It’s everywhere for good reason: beautifully written, fascinating, and impossible not to discuss.

Our May book club pick, All Our Beautiful Goodbyes, took me to the real and remote Sable Island off the coast of Nova Scotia just after WWII. I loved learning about the island, its shipwreck history, and the wild horses that reminded me of North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

While the romance and dialogue didn’t fully work for me at times, I enjoyed the story overall and found it to be a solid 4-star historical fiction read. The author’s note at the end, especially the connection to Dorothea Dix, may have been one of my favorite parts.

Easter is just a few weekends away, and I’ve been tucking these decoupage Easter eggs into little bowls and baskets all around the house.

The wooden eggs are sturdy enough for toddler play, but still feel a little elevated and special for spring decor.

This DIY is much simpler than it looks — have you tried decoupage before?

I recently picked up Heart the Lover after a friend recommended it as both a great read and a fun connection to our alma mater, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The author, Lily King, is a fellow graduate, which made me even more curious to dive in.

This literary novel follows a young woman navigating all-consuming college relationships that leave a lasting imprint on the rest of her life. The story unfolds across three stages: on campus during the relationships themselves (a bit of a love triangle), shortly after graduation as she tries to figure out adulthood, and years later as a wife and mother reflecting on love, choices, and the ways the past shapes who we become.

It’s emotional and deeply character-driven which sparks great book club conversations about relationships and the paths we take.
If you enjoy literary fiction or reflective relationship stories, this is one to add to your reading list.

My household is a little under the weather this weekend despite the beautiful spring weather outside, which called for a big pot of lemon chicken pastina soup.

It’s a cozy blend of classic Italian pastina “penicillin” soup and our favorite lemon chicken orzo soup. It’s comforting and soothing, but brightened with plenty of fresh lemon. Exactly the kind of simple soup that’s easy on a sore throat or upset stomach.

I used a big Costco rotisserie chicken, which makes this especially weeknight-friendly. The soup makes a generous batch, so I freeze extras in quart containers to pull out on busy nights or drop off for friends who could use a warm meal.

Blending some of the vegetables into the broth gives it a slightly thicker, cozy texture and conveniently hides a few veggies for picky eaters. You can swap the pasta for rice if you need a gluten free option. 

Save this recipe for the next sick day or cozy night when a bowl of soup is what you need.
