Here’s a look at a recent Saturday afternoon project. My clients purchased an old farm house and are gradually renovating the home themselves. When it came to their pantry, they have not yet determined a long-term solution for the space. But given its position in the middle of the kitchen, they enlisted my help in making it look better and be more functional. With help from The Container Store and HomeGoods, I quickly pulled together a solution that not only looks more “guest-ready”, but is more functional. What makes it more functional is the way each basket is organized, treating each as a “drawer” for baking essentials, for canned goods, for snacks. The baskets provide a simple, yet cohesive back drop and the end result is a system that looks great and is easy to maintain. Two weeks later, my clients rave how much easier it is to put groceries away!

Have you used a similar system in your home? If show tell me about it!

From nightmare event to a new dream kitchen!

Interior water leaks can create unimaginable damage and heartache for a homeowner. Mid-December, my clients woke up to a pre-holiday nightmare, having discovered a valve in the upstairs hallway bathroom had failed overnight, leaving their upstairs carpet soaked and water seeping down to the kitchen / laundry room, soaking the ceiling, drywall and buckling their hardwood floors. Given the amount of damage that occurred, they opted to make the best use of the bad situation and turn this ordeal into an opportunity to update areas of their home, notably their kitchen.

Here are some notable updates we’ve completed thus far:
- Refinished hardwood floors.
- New cabinets throughout the kitchen and laundry room.
- Extended the island to allow a pullout for garbage / recycling.
- Installed polished marble on the countertops, continuing it up backsplash.
-New custom hood.
- Reconfigured the pantry using new cabinetry that connected it with the rest of the kitchen and created a place to house the microwave out of sight.
- Repurposed the kitchen desk, turning it into a bar complete with wine fridge, open shelves and added storage.
- Designed an “L” shaped banquette-style seating area for the kitchen complete with custom cushions, a new table, accent chairs & pendant lighting (will share photos of this soon!)

Outside the kitchen, we also
-Made minor updates to the half bathroom adjacent to the kitchen
-Updated the stairwell’s balusters
-Update lighting and fans throughout

Here’s a peak at the kitchen.

Have you had a similar experience? If so, drop a like and tell me what changes did you made in the comments!

THE POWER OF COLOR

This kitchen went from dark and dated to bright, fresh, and full of personality—without changing the layout.

When my clients first reached out, they wanted to brighten their kitchen and initially were thinking of new countertops, a backsplash, and updated lighting. Their cabinets were in great shape, but as we explored lighter finishes and brighter design options, they realized the cabinetry was contributing to the heavy feel of the space. So we decided to paint them.

Because they love blue, we began exploring ways to incorporate it into the design. Then we found the slab.

While marble wasn’t originally part of the plan, this stone had everything they were looking for—brightness, movement, a touch of drama, and beautiful blue accents that tied the entire vision together.

From there, the design came together quickly. We extended the stone up the wall instead of using tile, selected a fresh paint palette for the cabinets, island, and walls, and added a statement light fixture to anchor the space.

The entire design process took about six weeks, but once materials were selected, the transformation happened in less than three.

The result? A kitchen that feels brighter, larger, and completely tailored to the homeowners who live there.

Would you paint your kitchen cabinets to achieve a transformation like this? Let me know in the comments or send me a message.

Today I kick off a new series focusing on easy (and affordable) refreshes to get your home ready for Spring and beyond!

Today's edit is all about accent pillows. We will look at the key elements to a successful refresh with emphasis on scale, texture, and color come together to tell one cohesive story.

We mixed patterns in different scales to keep things visually interesting without overwhelming the space. Think one bold moment, one subtle print, and a grounding solid to tie it all together.
