Some pieces I make with my hands. This one I made with my whole chest. There are places that mark you — that settle into your bones and stay there long after you've left. Parris Island is one of them. Not every map shows you where to go; some show you where someone became. Marsh, mud, and grit, carved in wood the way it's carved into the soul of every Marine who ever crossed that causeway.
I spent nearly seven years just across the water at Naval Hospital Beaufort, taking care of everyone from salty Navy veterans to wide-eyed boots who hadn't figured out yet what they were made of. Those years changed how I see service. Every single one of them — the Drill Instructors, the recruits grinding through the Crucible in the marsh at 3am, the families waiting — they all left a mark on me.
This map is my love letter to that hallowed ground. Because yes, it's hallowed — and if you know, you know.
